HR Administrative Specialist

Dearden's was originally established in 1910 and is the oldest furniture store in the western United States. Founded by Edgar Dearden in downtown Los Angeles, the company has spread to six retail outlets across Los Angeles and Orange Counties. In the late 1950's, responding to a rapid growth in southern California's Hispanic population, Dearden's geared its business almost exclusively towards Hispanics. It currently sells furniture, electronics, appliances, jewelry and perfume, in addition to providing travel and free check cashing services to its customers. Dearden's is also highly active in supporting charitable organizations and community activities. In addition to its college scholarship program, its yearly "Para los Ni?os" golf tournament benefits at-risk children and their families. Other charitable organizations supported by Dearden's include the United Way, the American Red Cross and "Navidad en el Barrio". POSITION: HR Administrative Specialist

PURPOSE:  To provide proactive administrative support to the Human Resources department to ensure that our employees are provided with information in a timely, friendly and professional manner.

 Proactively anticipates the office workload and plans work assignments to ensure optimum productivity and accuracy.Continually improves existing processes and/or procedures to meet the changing needs of the department.Exercises sound judgment and discretion in the collection and dissemination of information; insures that highly sensitive, proprietary and confidential information is released only to those authorized.Maintains accurate personnel files.Consultative skill and assist management in all aspects of Human Resources including employment, benefits, employee relations, investigations, policy and guideline interpretation, problem solving, and compliance with local, state and federal employment laws and regulations. Administers and tracks participation in Human Resources related programs and procedures.  This may include employee development activities, recruiting activities, new employee set-up, employee services, etc.Composes accurate, grammatically correct and neat correspondence for the distribution.  Maintains positive working relationships with all departmental and company personnel.  Advises Human Resources staff of existing or potential problem areas of which he/she should be aware.Acquires and maintains the personal computer skills necessary to accomplish assignments in the most productive manner.Coordinates with other staff within the department to insure office coverage is consistently maintained.Maintains appointment calendar of obligations for the Vice President and makes telephone calls and reservations as requiredHandle special projects and other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:Education & Certifications

4-year degree or currently working on a degree.  The educational requirement may be offset by related professional certifications and/or additional experience. Experience & Background 2-3 years HR administration experience or 2 years as benefits specialist and 1 year HR generalist experience.  Strong PC skills with advance Microsoft Excel, Word, and  PowerPoint experienced preferred.  Experience with Ceridian HRIS system preferred.  Excellent written and oral communication skills.  Must have strong interpersonal and written communication skills; exceptional organizational skills and multi-tasking ability; sense of urgency; ability to work well independently and exercise professional judgment with minimal day-to-day supervision.  Bilingual English/Spanish preffered.
