Position Description:

Chevron Technology & Services Companies is accepting online applications for a Human Resources Assistant position supporting the Energy Technology Company in San Ramon, CA through August 30, 2006.

OVERVIEW OF POSITION:
Chevron Technology Company (ETC) provides energy technology solutions and services to Chevron operations. ETC partners with Chevron operating companies and affiliates to rapidly apply technology and practices to continuously improve HES, operational, and financial performance. The HR Assistant position reports directly to the HR Business Partner/Visa and Immigration Specialist and provides support to employees and supervisors located in San Ramon and Richmond, as well as providing visa and immigration support to all ETC employees. The HR Assistant provides administrative support to the HR Business Partner and is a member of the HR team. HR support for clients in the Richmond and Houston facilities will be required on occasion through partnership with ETC?s other HR Assistants.

This position requires the ability to discreetly and routinely handle confidential information. Behaviors that will lead to success include initiative, attention to detail, prioritization, multi-tasking, and producing high-quality, error free work product. Must be self-motivated, able to work independently, while demonstrating strong collaboration, organization and communication skills. Advanced skills in the Microsoft Office suite (Word, PowerPoint & Excel) required. Understanding and experience with visa and immigration law and basic SAP skills desired. Position requires demonstrated analytical skills to independently coordinate complex processes and programs for the HR Team.


Qualifications:

ESSENTIAL POSTION FUNCTIONS:
- Provides counsel to managers and employees on visa and immigration related matters.
- Provides support to ETC Visa and Immigration Specialist on visa/immigration matters, (payroll changes, internal approval process, visa tracking database, process improvements, etc.)
- Provides assistance and counseling to employees and supervisors on Human Resources matters, excluding benefits. Directs employees to HR Service Center or HR Shared Services as appropriate.
- Provides administrative support to Human Resources team.
- Facilitate and coordinate on-boarding and new employee orientation to ensure smooth transition for new employees.
- As a team member, will assist other HR Assistants; participate on various teams, study groups, special projects, and employee presentations, as needed.
- May relieve HR Business Partner, as needed.
- May require occasional travel and flexible work hours to accommodate time zone coverage.

General administrative support: Visa and Immigration Projects/Support, (i.e. payroll change, internal approval process, process documentation, etc.); HR Special Projects (i.e. New Hire/Termination processes & procedures, documentation of business processes, etc); Meeting Facilitation & Logistics; Research & answer HR questions; Back-up coverage for HRBPs as well as other HR Assistants in Houston and Richmond. Miscellaneous/other administrative support. Coordinate updates to ETC HR Website; maintain ETC HR Org Chart updates; publication & distribution;
Maintain HR?s Global Address book distribution lists.

Analytical support: Salary Determination support (consolidation of data, data input in SAP HR, producing statistics and reports using Excel and creating presentations); Headcount monitoring and tracking using various PC and web applications; AAP reporting and data integrity; Staffing and Recruiting reporting and analysis.

SAP and HR system support: Generating reports in SAP Business Warehouse and monitoring data for accuracy; Input salary program data in SAP for select leaders; Manage HR system for position & salary changes & additions; Data entry & tracking of development plans in Management Profile Systems.

SELECTION CRITERIA:
Job Knowledge (Important)
- Understanding of basic HR products, services, policies, and practices and/or where to obtain counsel.
- Basic knowledge/experience using SAP HR R3 & BW (inquiry & reporting) desired.
- Maintains high degree of confidentiality.
Visa and Immigration Knowledge (Desired)
- Understanding of US visa and immigration law.
Teamwork and Customer Focus (Critical)
- Foster collaboration and teamwork. Builds and maintains trust through reliable delivery of products and services.
- Ability to interface effectively with all levels of a diverse workforce.

Computer Skills (Important)
- Must possess strong skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Calendar/scheduling.
- SAP HR Inquiry (R/3) and Reporting (B/W) preferred but not required.
Organization and Analytical Skills (Critical)
- Ability to gather and analyze data. Uses data to support conclusions and recommendations for action.
- Is accurate and ensures high quality, error free output. Demonstrates attention to detail and ensures data integrity.
- Ability to plan and organize own work. Must be able to work independently, take initiative and act on opportunities.

Experience in presenting material in a public setting to various levels of management and employee populations.

SPECIAL SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS OR ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS/INFORMATION:
- Relocation benefits will not be granted.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- SHRM Human Resource Generalist Certificate desired. PHR or SPHR certification a plus.
- Occasional travel.
- 9/80 work schedule available.
