Human Resources (& Payroll) Assistant

We offer a broad array of branded and private label products to customers in the Retail, Foodservice, and Industrial trade classes from multiple production facilities located throughout the United States. Mizkan Americas, Inc. is privately held by the Mizkan Group Corporation, which is one of the most well respected food companies in Japan and the largest producer of vinegar in the world.
We are currently searching for a Human Resources Assistant for our Kansas City, Missouri facility. The Human Resources Assistant will perform a variety of duties including human resources, payroll, and general office duties. This position will report to the Plant Manager.
Major responsibilities are as follows:
Set-up, maintain, and audit personnel and payroll files and records. Prepare related reports. Assist in recruiting activities including placing help wanted ads, screening applications and resumes, interviewing, reference checking, and arranging for employment drug tests and physicals. Prepare new hire packets and conduct new hire orientation. Administer employee benefits programs. Assist employees with personnel issues, questions, and inquiries. Arrange for temporary employees and submit hours worked. Monitor employee attendance records for compliance with company policy. Follow up with employees having dated work permits. Arrange for medical treatment and drug/alcohol testing of employees as needed. Complete First Report of Injury and report incidents to workers? compensation provider. Maintain OSHA 300 log and follow-up with injured employees. Maintain a supply of forms, pamphlets, literature, etc. Maintain bulletin boards and keep government required postings up-to-date.
Audit and edit time sheets and payroll reports. Process payroll and forward data to Corporate. Sort and distribute payroll checks. Investigate payroll discrepancies and take corrective action.
Assist with general office duties as follows: Greet and receive employees and visitors. Issue badges, etc. Answer and route incoming telephone calls. Take and relay messages. Open and sort incoming mail. Prepare outgoing mail. Assist with data entry of purchased and received goods. Order office supplies and arrange for repair of office equipment. Compose and prepare correspondence and memos and perform other clerical duties.
Some college education is preferred. Must have very good written and verbal communication skills. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential data is essential. Minimum 1 year of human resources and 1 year of payroll processing experience within a manufacturing environment is preferred. General office and data entry skills are essential. Computer literacy (Word, Excel, and data entry) and good math aptitude are required. ADP experience and bi-lingual Spanish is a plus. Attention to detail and working knowledge of federal and state employment laws are essential.
