Manager, Benefits - Retirement Plans
NRG Energy, Inc. owns and operates a diverse portfolio of power-generating facilities, primarily in the Northeast, South Central and West Coast regions of the United States. Its operations include baseload, intermediate, peaking, and cogeneration facilities, thermal energy production and energy resource recovery facilities. NRG also has ownership interests in international generating facilities in Australia and Germany.
We have an immediate opening for a Manager, Benefits - Retirement Plans. Qualified candidate will be responsible for daily administrative function of over 12 different Retirement related employee benefit programs in coordination with outsourced/co-sourced vendors and field representatives. Maintains benefit financial records, coordinates communications and researches laws, documents, & prior interpretations to resolve problems and issues.
Responsibilities:Work with outsource/co-source vendors to administer the routine functions of the company?s defined benefit and defined contribution employee benefit plans including past service, transfer and other issues. Work with outsource/co-source vendors to oversee Retiree Welfare Program eligibility/enrollmentRespond and resolve escalated benefit issues and problems.Review data & produce files to upload vendor systems (401k, defined benefit and defined contribution pension); produce compliance testing dataCalculate annual discretionary contribution and true-up calculations; review Form 5500 filings; ensure data accuracy of annual pension statementsDevelop and produce reports to assist Accounting with appropriate establishment of d.c. benefit accruals; researching and correcting discrepancies in accrualsEnsure timely pension contributions and PBGC filingsWork effectively with field representatives, accounting & union representation while maintaining confidentiality of dataEnsure compliance with Sarbane-Oxley by self-testing and auditing of processes, updating controlsImplement & Maintain Communications Plan: Draft and/or review communications pieces including SPDs, SARs, Newsletter articles,; present Benefits at new hire orientation; arrange local benefit presentationsProduce various reports including census data using HRIS system. Work closely with Actuary and Auditors to ensure government compliance Maintain and develop financial records systems and ensure accuracy and payment of invoicesMaintain knowledge of federal and state laws pertaining to employee benefits, plans to maintain company compliance.Assist in developing and improving benefits procedures, policies and forms to better facilitate the administration of the benefit plans. Project manage and administer the integration of plans and programs due to acquisitionsPerform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
? Bachelor?s degree and eight to ten years of benefits experience
? Demonstrated knowledge of benefits terminology and industry practice.
? Technical competence in DB & CB Retirement plans, regulatory & compliance issues, financial analysis
? Three or more years experienced working with outsourced/co-sourced vendors
? Knowledgeable of federal and state laws pertaining to benefits.
? Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
? Demonstrated ability to maintain employee confidentiality.
? Demonstrated ability to research problems, apply analytical techniques, and follow through issues to resolution.
? Proficient in manipulating word processing and spreadsheet (advanced spreadsheet skills) computer software (Windows based Word and Excel).
? Strong customer relationship building skills.
