Manager, Corporate Safety
POSITION SUMMARY
Establish corporate standards, direction and support for worldwide units in the safety and claims management area. Ensure corporate compliance with legal guidelines in each country. Design programs to reduce the annual 13 million dollar workers’ compensation losses.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
? Work closely with business leaders in developing company-wide, business specific safety performance improvements and individual plant safety plans.
? Mentor, coach and work closely with local Safety & Wellness resources and assist with directing and facilitating Safety Teams to identify key areas for improvement where the most value can be gained.
? Establish and provide statistical safety reporting to internal customers and senior management regarding safety performance, improvement strategies/initiatives and compliance issues as required.
? Establish standards and expectations in the safety and health area, audit against the expectation and keep management apprised of status.
? Develop and monitor policies and programs to ensure all facilities are in compliance with safety and health requirements and that employee safety programs are developed and carried out.
? Represent BorgWarner in any activities relating to safety regulatory agencies (i.e., OSHA).
? Lead BorgWarner Safety Framework Program.
? Facilitate sharing of health and safety best practices among facilities.
? Build a professional network externally in order to be at the forefront of progress in the field; recognized by the customer base as a leader in Safety & Wellness; exchange best practices in an effort to continually “raise the bar” within the organization.
? Provide leadership in instilling a zero accident culture.
? Develops, implements, and administers safety and wellness programs to constantly improve the welfare of employees, comply with safety regulations and minimize financial liability associated with worker’s compensation, regulatory fines and civil litigation.
? Oversees the corporate-wide wellness program in support of efforts to maintain employee health while addressing the escalating company healthcare costs.
? Establishes systems to periodically audit safety programs to assure ongoing conformance with internal and regulatory requirements.
? Keeps Corporate VP of Human Resources, Business Unit VPs of HR, and general managers at each plant informed of safety performance and activities through periodic and special reports.
? Handles needed safety training either personally or through representatives (Supervisors, Advisors, hourly), depending on most effective method.
? Keep abreast of developments in occupational health and safety regulations.
? Partner, as necessary, with the Director, Risk Management, to determine actions to reduce worker’s compensation and other casualty incident rates and costs.
? Partner, as necessary, with the Director, Environmental Programs, review environmental factors that can have an impact on overall safety. Interface with the Director, Environmental, to resolve issues through continuous improvement.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
1. Incumbent must have 7+ years of demonstrated experience managing occupations safety and health programs.
2. Bachelor’s degree preferred in Industrial Safety or Industrial Hygiene. Advanced degree in occupational safety desirable but does not replace requirement for practical experience. Certified Safety Professional preferred.
3. Prior multi-unit responsibility required.
