PAYROLL TECHNICIAN II

PAYROLL TECHNICIAN II, JOB CODE #2006-0044 ? ACCOUNTING DEPARTMENT (PAYROLL OFFICE):  Full-time, temporary, ?non-exempt? position through November 30, 2006 (with the possibility of converting to permanent).  Salary:  $2,835.00 to $4,252.00 per month.  Work Schedule:  Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Duties:  Under minimal supervision, the incumbent will independently initiate, process and complete a diverse range of fairly standardized transactions including but not limited to salary payment for employees in the following categories: Intermittent, full and part-time (regular), overtime, special consultant, shift differential, call back, individual lesson, academic year, ten-month, 10/12 month, 11/12 month, quarterly, summer session, Extended Learning, leave status and accruals for vacation, holiday, sick, injury, bereavement, leave without pay, absence without leave, military, non-industrial disability leave, industrial disability leave and compensatory time.  The incumbent will process changes in pay status for appointments, end of probationary periods, promotions, demotions, reclassifications, retirements, and separations for all categories or a combination of categories of CSU employees including faculty, staff, graduate assistants, student assistants, special consultants, individual course and summer session instructors.  The incumbent will independently compute net pay based on employees? occupational status, as well as process attendance records, leave accruals, and entitlements, judgments, levies or garnishments on employees? pay.  The incumbent will verify information prior to employee update or release of payment.  The incumbent will provide immediate detailed information on any aspect of employees? payroll records as requested, and will provide information to callers both by phone and in person at the customer service window. The incumbent must stay current on a multitude of changes in a wide variety of resource materials. The incumbent will perform other related duties as assigned.  Qualifications:  Applicants must possess a minimum of two years of payroll experience, preferably in a governmental setting.  Applicants must possess well-developed customer service skills.  Applicants must have knowledge of the state payroll system, the Uniform State Payroll Procedures Manual, or other governmental payroll manuals. Applicants must have the ability to independently research answers to fairly standardized problems, and independently identify appropriate payroll computer applications for retrieval of a variety of complex written policies and procedures.  Applicants must have the ability to communicate tactfully and clearly both orally and in writing to explain complex payroll policies to employees. Applicants must possess the ability to operate a computer terminal to process various payroll/personnel transactions, along with the ability to enter codes and data on the terminal.  The ability to perform mathematical problems, participate in establishing general office practices and independently compose written correspondence is required, along with the ability to work in a high-volume, fast-paced environment, as well as to be a team player.  Applicants must possess the ability to work independently for a significant period of time, along with the ability to meet deadlines.  Applicants must possess the ability to train employees outside the Payroll Office regarding policies and procedures pertaining to their respective offices, along with the ability to work with a diverse group of people.  The ability to analyze and audit PeopleSoft transactions and documents is preferred.  Fingerprinting is a requirement of this position.
