Safety&Health Representative

Develop, implement, supervise and coordinate safety, health and environmental programs, processes, and policies to prevent injuries, protect the health and well-being of all employees, minimize the impact of our manufacturing operations on the environment, and maintain compliance with applicable local, state and federal laws, regulations, guidelines and directives. Reports to Manager of Safety and Environmental Affairs

Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:


1) Assist in developing and providing effective employee training which focuses on safety, health and environmental awareness supporting company programs and processes.
a) monthly training for all manufacturing supervisors
b) training of all employees that includes training and testing.
c) specific training for manufacturing employees (e.g. rigging, forklift certification)
d) new hire safety orientation training

3) Conduct monthly safety audits throughout manufacturing areas placing emphasis on safety, health, housekeeping, and environmental concerns. Audits conducted in all manufacturing areas (currently 19). Develop written audit reports, provide recommendations for hazard elimination, and ensure implementation of corrective action.

4) Interface routinely with the Medical Department regarding the recording of work related injuries and illnesses and discussion of preventive measures.

5) Conduct incident investigations and provide recommendations for corrective action to manufacturing managers and supervision.

6) Provide technical assistance regarding safety, health and environmental concerns to management and supervision.

7) Respond to employee concerns and issues in an effective and timely manner.

8) Write weekly safety talks for awareness of safety related incidents and issues in order to modify behaviors and decrease the likelihood of recurrence.

9) Assist in conducting and interpreting noise level testing in areas of concern to ensure compliance with federal regulations.

10) Conduct and interpret industrial hygiene sampling (area and/or personal) to ensure compliance with federal regulations or adopted voluntary guidelines established by the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists.

11) Develop and implement site specific ?Injury Driver Checklists? to be used as a guideline by Safety Committee representatives during monthly safety audits.

12) Assist in the development/ implementation of policies and programs to ensure regulatory compliance with:

a) Clean Air Act
b) Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act (SARA)
c) Clean Water Act
d) Underground Storage Tank Act
e) Solid Waste Management
f) Medical Waste Management
g) Storm Water Management
h) Emergency Preparedness and Planning
i) Department of Transportation
j) All aspects of OSHA, including the new Ergonomics Standard

13) Assist with the preparation and/or review of proposals of capital improvement programs and activities with respect to safety, health and environmental issues.

14) As directed, develop and implement company environmental audit processes.

15) As directed, interface with applicable regulatory representatives and other authorized personnel regarding safety, health and environmental programs and inspections.

16) As directed develop, implement and evaluate safety, health and environmental guidelines for subcontracted activities being conducted within the Shady Grove, Customer Support (Chambersburg) or Quincy facilities.

17) Assist in the development and maintenance of all required permits, files, reports and records covering all aspects of assigned scope of company operations including Shady Grove, Customer Support (Chambersburg) and the Quincy facility.

18) Independently identify duties required by overall responsibilities and act on them.


Bachelor of Science (BS), Safety Sciences or equivalent technical degree
Five to Seven years industry experience
