Safety & Risk Coordinator

 

SUMMARY:  Establishes and promotes the maintenance of a safe and secure working environment for employees and minimizes opportunities for litigation and risk exposure to the company. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Four year college degree preferred with a minimum of two years experience in organizational safety and security management, property/casualty insurance and workers? compensation. 

Expert OSHA and safety knowledge required. 

Safety training experience required and safety certifications desirable.

Must be knowledgeable in Texas Workers? Compensation laws. 

Must possess a valid Texas driver?s license and an excellent driving record. 

Ability to work with various computer software packages required.

Excellent written and spoken communication and facilitation skills required. 

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common technical journals and legal documents required. 

Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community required. 

 

MAJOR JOB DUTIES: 

Formulates and implements general safety/security policies and procedures to be followed by company  personnel in compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations. 

Analyzes loss control and accident reports, identifies trends, and implements processes to prevent recurrance. 

Consults with all departments on design and use of equipment, vehicles, fire prevention and safety/security programs. 

Inspects or tours organization facilities or the field to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, and recommends corrective or preventative measures where indicated. 

Keeps managers, supervisors, and employees alerted to the hazards of working with toxic fumes, dangerous chemicals, and any other hazardous substances, conditions, or situations. 

Participates in the investigation of accidents and injuries and cooperates in the preparation of material and evidence for organization use in hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations. 

Ensures federal, state, and local regulations are followed for drivers of company vehicles. 

Administers drug/alcohol testing process for employees. 

Compiles and submits reports required by regulatory agencies, corporate and division offices. 

In conjunction with Benefits Administrator, oversees the administration of workers? compensation program including working with the insurance carrier to return employees to gainful employment, thereby, reducing lost work days. 

Interacts with the corporate office and division management to reduce costs related to insurance rates and litigation. 

Devises, coordinates, and presents training programs or media that will increase proficiency in safe practices and promote safety consciousness. 

Maintains accurate safety files and records in working with our insurance carriers to insure the company?s interest is protected in handling claims and lawsuits. 

Conducts safety training, safety inspections, investigates accidents/incidents, and recommends preventative solutions. 

Works with contractors to ensure they are in compliance with all contractual requirements related to safety.

 

OTHER COMMENTS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, talk, or hear.  The employee frequently is required to stand.  The employee is occasionally required to sit, use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, and color vision.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, and risk of electrical shock.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
