The Local Database Administrator ?LDBA? shall provide database administration support for a MySQL/PostgreSQL DBMS in a CentOS environment by participating in user requirement validation, statistical analysis, database design and data modeling processes, ongoing maintenance, and performance evaluation/quality assurance reviews to ensure all CMS bid submission information is securely captured and stored. The LDBA shall be responsible for database implementation, preparing database documentation, implementing and enforcing database security, troubleshooting and solving database problems, performance tuning, database reorganization support, backup and recovery processes, monitoring databases through standard database administration practices, and testing databases as directed. The LDBA shall deliver database development and integration based on CMS standards, applications, and project needs, and shall assist other personnel, such as engineers, testers, and technical writers, etc., as needed to ensure comprehensive contract success. The LDBA will install the database, and assist in the installation of the DMEPOS Bid Submission Web Site and conduction of a mock bidding process to allow suppliers and the contractor to test the system prior to actual bidding going live. This mock bidding shall test all aspects of the process, including data network and backup telephone testing to verify the complete system is in working order. The LDBA shall also provide future support to upgrade the database to Oracle and integrate with the existing CMS data center.
REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE: The Local Database Administrator shall have extensive skills in MySQL/PostgreSQL and Oracle 10g DBA tasks in CentOS and Solaris operating system environments, including upgrading and cloning databases, migrating databases to different hardware platforms, and performing database recoveries. The LDBA shall possess excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills, solid communications (written and oral) and documentation skills, ability to work closely with team members, strong background in a customer service environment, experience in solving practical problems, demonstrated ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form, database implementation, performance monitoring and tuning, and maintenance activities, database design and modeling, implementing and supporting databases in a clustered environment, setting up user IDs with roles and privileges to ensure robust security, installing software and software patches, load balancing, resolving computer security issues, and performing and monitoring backups, and provide technical assistance, like querying and updating data, to other CMS/CBIC/PITS staff members. The LDBA must also be capable of performing System Administrator roles in a back up capacity.
PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: The Local Database Administrator shall have the ability to work in both a team/under direction environment and in a self-paced/unsupervised environment, and, most importantly, a desire to have fun, learn, and deliver a product on-time on-budget.
EDUCATION: The Local Database Administrator shall have a BS degree in a computer related field, or four continuous years of experience administering complex databases and extensive knowledge of backup or recovery procedures along with two years of database administration experience with MySQL/PostgreSQL and one year of Oracle (at least 9i) experience.
