Analyst / Sr. Analyst Production Support (FL)

This position is responsible for maintaining a secure and highly available application environment used by our Risk, Power/Gas Trading and Finance business units in Houston.  The individual will act as day-to-day production support and perform systems management functions for those applications by working closely with individuals responsible for the infrastructure.

 

 

Provide software support for applications across multiple platforms within a framework of established operations procedures.

 

Troubleshoot technical and operational issues occurring in complex applications. Issues to be resolved require a broad range of troubleshooting skills related to: software functionality, application server setup, database management, data analysis, operating system configuration, performance tuning, installation, and migration.

 

Maintenance and troubleshooting of data, interfaces and communications links as necessary to ensure operational availability.

 

Prioritize numerous issues of varying severity, and effectively manages the resolution of all issues within accepted service levels.

 

Make configuration, security and standing data changes for external applications as permitted through the use of administration functionality in, or interfaces to, the applications.

 

Collaborate extensively with peers to resolve client issues while actively contributing to a growing knowledge network that improves the effectiveness of our team and the information available to our business partners.

 

Recommend changes and/or enhancements at the application level to management, clients, and other support areas.

 

Participate as required in a 24-hour on-call rotation in support of the EMG client community.



Minimum of 3 to 5 years of related experience in a technical role.


 


Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.


 


Experience or comfort in a self-directed work environment.


 


Demonstrated ability to research and resolve problems using a variety of resources and tools.


 


Knowledge of system utilities, testing methods and software resolution.


 


Strong knowledge of system and database administration principles.


 


Oracle and MS SQL*Server database knowledge including troubleshooting, configuration, maintenance and tuning.


 


Understanding of Internet application technologies including: HTML, XML, Internet protocols, networking, firewalls, Web Server configurations, Internet application architectures based upon Java technology and Internet security are needed.


 


Technical expertise and/or familiarity with Microsoft operating systems and technologies, including VB.NET, ASP.NET, SQL Server, T-SQL and DTS.


 


Technical expertise and/or familiarity with Perl, UNIX shell scripting, XML, and secure FTP.


 


Familiarity with the Power and Gas Industries, Energy Trading and/or ERCOT an asset but not required.
