*SQL Server and/or DB2 knowledge a plus as is Crystal Reports experience.
The position is located in Northbrook, IL
The purpose of the department to support the customer-facing producers that represent Allstate in terms of process, technology, and people. Support is primarily focused on the Agency channel and may include the Field Sales Leadership organization.
The scope of this job is Application Developer - Under general supervision, the successful candidate will be responsible for the construction of a variety of applications based on technical specifications. This construction process involves (but is not limited to) creation of detail design documents, test plans, coding the application(s), as well as reporting status on progress. As part of a 'virtual' team, the incumbent will have the opportunity to work with a greater variety of applications, processes and people.
The individual will be responsible for
1. Primary Responsibilities: Analyzes and reviews business, functional, and high level technical requirements. Designs systems. Provides input into detailed project estimates and workplan. Programs / develops code for system changes or new modules. Participates in code review. Plans and conducts module and basic integration testing. Performs production support and troubleshooting, and maintenance. Prepares and packages code elements for production deployment.
2. Specific Responsibilities: Reviews and understands detailed business, functional and high level technical requirements (including technical recovery, security and audit). Participates in creating detailed design documents that support interface and technical design. Participates in design reviews. Provides/confirms detailed estimates for assigned work units. Generates and codes work units for simple to intermediate changes, enhancements, and modules according to specifications and standards.
3. Specific Responsibilities: Accurately documents design, code, other work. Prepares and conducts structured code review. Prepares accurate test plan and data and tests modules. Participates in testing reviews. Tracks and resolves simple to intermediate defects. Assists in production support activities by determining the nature, impact and extent of the problem. Provides Technical Assistance. Makes specified changes.
4. Specific Responsibilities: Moves production-ready files to staging area manually or with migration tools. Communicates and coordinates among developers, QC analysts and environment management personnel.
5. Other Responsibilities: Supports the evaluation of vendor software, configures and changes software as necessary. Demonstrates understanding of technical environment. Mentors and coaches peers and colleagues. Builds and sustains relationships. Supports process improvements. Supports corporate strategy. Configures vendor software. Reviews and verifies operation of new vendor release features . Learns technical environment. Shares knowledge, ground rules and perspective with new team members. Builds, cultivates, and maintains long term relationships. Identifies opportunities to improve internal team processes or supported business's processes, products, or services. Supports the achievement of the APT and corporate strategy.

Experience Required:

Computer Proficiency:
Oracle 9i - required, PL/SQL - required, Crystal Reports - preferred, .Net technology - preferred, IBM Mainframe Z/OS - preferred, DB2 - desirable.
Education:
College Degree - Preferred
