JOB SUMMARY


Under the guidance of a senior, lead or principal software engineer, designs, develops and maintains software components and products that support H&R Block business applications. Uses tools, languages, coding standards and best practices to develop new product features and maintain year over year product functionality and enhancements. Creates and executes unit tests and addresses defects. Works closely with the QA, User Experience and other teams to ensure consistent understanding of requirements and approach.


Minimum Requirements
Bachelor?s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or the equivalent through a combination of education and work experience.
Knowledge of software development concepts and practices.
Knowledge of all phases of the software development lifecycle.
Effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
Demonstrated effective time management, organizational, prioritization, and planning skills.
Analytical and problem solving skills. Ability to develop creative solutions in assigned projects.
Ability to work in a team environment with limited supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
One to two years experience developing and maintaining applications.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
Ability to determine whether a particular problem is caused by hardware, operating systems software, application programs, or network failures.
Technical Requirements
Five + years experience in Web-based Software Development
2 years experience 3-tier application development using Microsoft Visual Studio .NET Framework
2 years experience with C#
Strong development foundation with Oracle and/or SQL Server database systems
Strong knowledge of Unix, Shell Scripting (KSH)
Strong knowledge of HTML and javascript.
Experience with structured development methodology and structured system architectures.
Experience with Visual Source Safe familiarity or equivalent source code library.
Candidate should be well-versed in all aspects of a project development lifecycle and should have proven experience developing and releasing software and services in a team-based environment.
