Backup Analyst

Description:
IT System Services is responsible for the support, deployment, and enhancement of the technical and application infrastructures used to support and promote the organizational functions of ING Direct. This will include all application support, database administration, server support, internetworking and telecommunications support and development of the technical infrastructure to support the growing needs of ING Direct.

This position is responsible for supporting, managing and implementing all backup infrastructures for the ING Enterprise. This includes EMC, ADIC and DELL tape backup components. The successful incumbent will:

* Research, recommend and implement changes to production Backup platforms
* Ensure the stability and performance of all Backup infrastructure and their key associated applications.
* Perform pro-active capacity planning, including short term and long-term trend analysis.
* Perform systems management, including maintenance and patch rollouts to the Backup infrastructure.
* Tune systems for optimal performance.
* Recommend policies, procedures and purchases related to systems administration, security, etc.
* Be Responsible for maintaining the inventory system pertaining to hardware and equipment.
* Create and manage disaster recovery procedures systems, production troubleshooting and problem resolution relative the Backup environment.

This responsibility will include all intermediate switches and devices that are attached the Backup Library. Additionally the successful incumbent will have a thorough understanding of the Veritas application and associated backup/scheduling methodologies.

Essential Functions:
* Serve as part of the IT Systems Team in developing and implementing next generation banking systems architecture for Backup/Recovery infrastructures.
* Support and maintain configuration management for all backup systems
* Support the backup and recovery strategy for the Backup environment and working closely with the SAN and Server Teams.
* Provide daily administration of backup related systems.
* Monitor and proactively support capacity planning and analysis
* Understanding of all IT best practices for data and centralized backup/recovery
* Independently identify and address documentation needs.
* Be able to write comprehensive detailed documents
* Develop system administration standards and procedures to maintain consistent practices.

Qualifications:
* 3 Years in Backup/Recovery and Tape administration
* Continued training and study in Technology and Business Leadership
* Technical training on UNIX, Windows platform design and support

Education and/or Certifications:
* Four-year degree in related discipline with 10 years experience in systems administration

Technical skills and abilities:
* Strong working knowledge of scripting languages and programming methodologies.
* Leadership in the deployment of world-class IT infrastructure.
* Ability to quickly troubleshoot and conduct root cause analysis.
* Ownership and accountability for production level issues.
* Formal knowledge and practice of the Quality Process and Project Management philosophies and principles

Working Conditions:
* 10-30% Travel possible
* Off hours support and on-call responsibility as required by the needs of the business and support organization. This shared team responsibility will include evenings and weekends and may fluctuate as business needs changed.
