About One Economy

One Economy Corporation, a national 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization based in Washington, DC, is dedicated to helping low-income people improve their lives by ending their economic and social isolation.  Through a home-based, Internet strategy, One Economy is working to connect low-income households to computers and Internet access, training and support, and comprehensive, online content to expand their opportunities to make more informed decisions and build assets.

 

Our consumer web site, www.thebeehive.org (the Beehive), is a virtual support network designed to move people into the economic mainstream. Beehive content is written specifically for a low-income audience, in languages and at a literacy level (6th grade) that speaks directly to them. The Beehive's information and interactive tools focus on the things that matter most to our audience: health, jobs, money, education and family. The ultimate goal of the Beehive is to link low-income people to critical, local information and resources so that they can take action to improve their lives.

 

Since its founding in 2000, One Economy has already touched thousands of lives. Our content-rich, multi-lingual website, The Beehive, is now being used by an average of 200,000 individuals per month. Our local demonstration programs operating in eight cities across the nation are showing the potential benefits of technology to connect thousands of low-income people to affordable access, training, and useful content through Beehive marketing and innovative programs, such as the Digital Access Fund, a unique computer financing product, and the Digital Connectors program, a best practice, youth leadership development vehicle that trains young people to advance the adoption of technology in their own communities. 

One Economy Corporation seeks a web-savvy Managing Editor for the Beehive to help shape the future of this online website dedicated to helping the poor.  The successful candidate will lead and manage the editorial development of web-based information. The Beehive Managing Editor will be the top editorial position responsible for directing the editorial staff and coordinating the production of the Beehive.  This includes:

 

? primary responsibility for editorial and content decisions;

? developing, maintaining and growing the content, interactive services and features including maintaining exiting content and links nationally and in all local Beehives;

? establishing content priorities and content production schedules;

? managing channel editors and freelance writers for money, jobs, school, family and health content including all translation services;

? maintaining content advisory groups for each channel;

? writing and editing; and

? collaborating with the design and web development staff.

 

Requirements:Bachelor?s degree or higher.Appropriate supervisory experience.A minimum of three years deploying and developing content, services and features on the Internet;Ability to work in fast paced environment; a positive and proactive attitudeAbility to maintain effective key business relationships with internal contacts and external clients.High comfort level with a collaborative work process and collegial working environment.Strong project management skills.Organizational/Time Management Skills: Job requires working on multiple concurrent projects. Must be able to keep work organized to meet project deadlines.

Compensation

Commensurate with experience (good benefit package)
