Build and Release Engineer

We are partnering with our SLC, Utah client to find a qualified Build and Release Engineer for a contract lasting up to 6+ months. This position will consist of planning and execution of the everyday Software Configuration Management, Change Management and Release Management tasks. This position requires someone that can help development teams accelerate development cycles, improve software quality, and increase staff productivity by automating production builds and releases, and making the overall process faster and more reliable. We use Team Foundation Server-candidates with experience are preferable. This person will be responsible for the labeling, branching and merging of source objects; creating build plans and release schedules; and preparing software build and release environments. Experience deploying Web applications is required. This person will maintain, control and manage multiple concurrent source bases from inception to production and fix delivery phases; writing/utilizing tools to automate build and deployment procedures; and resolving build and deployment issues. This person will be involved in developing and maintaining a release control process. This role will facilitate handoffs of software and data components to the QA team; create and maintain SCM/CM documentation; and assist, train and support users of configuration management and source control software.

The candidate must have a thorough understanding of Software Configuration and Release Management concepts and practices. Candidates must have the ability to recognize and propose new procedures or modifications to existing procedures to enhance our current processes. This person needs to be able to communicate with multiple organizations during the software implementation and build process. In addition, candidates should have the experience to design, develop and test automated build and deployment scripts. Candidates need to have proven experience with tools that automate, manage, and track the build and release activities. The client needs someone experienced to step in and help set up/enforce structure and process. Success in this role requires cross-group communication and excellent interpersonal skills. Experience with Team Foundation Server and MSBuild and the ability to mentor and teach others are required. A BS, preferably in MIS/CS or other analytical field, or equivalent experience; is required. 4+ years of programming experience within Software Configuration Management (Hardware/Software integration experience desired) is required. Prior experience as a build/release engineer, the ability to mentor others, and prior experience in varied control scripting languages such as Final Builder, XML, SQL, MSBuild, Visual Build Pro and Automated Build Studio is required. Candidates must have in-depth knowledge of version control packages, including Team Foundation Version Control and Visual Source Safe. Experience with Source Code Control strategies for various development cycles, i.e. continuous, iterative, is required. Experience and knowledge of Life Cycle Development models and environments is required. Knowledge and experience with multi-site, concurrent development software development and testing environments, the ability to successfully interact with and coordinate across diverse parts of organization, technical and non-technical.
