General Description

 

? An expert in one or more BI tools (Cognos, Siebel Analytics, SAS, SQL, VMS, Unix, MS Access, Autosys), the BI Specialist configures these tools, develops the semantic layer and metadata, and creates reports and report definitions

 

? Creates and delivers end-user training and documentation and provides second-line support to power users who develop reports on behalf of their departmental colleagues

 

? Works with end users and business analysts to ensure tight fit between BI environment and business requirements

? Leads team of BI specialists

 

 

Key Responsibilities

 

? Installs, configures, and deploys BI tools

? Troubleshoots BI tool problems and tunes for performance

? Supervises the configuration and performance tuning of analytics servers

? Designs and implements BI portals, dashboards, scorecards, and multidimensional analytical cubes  

?  Develops BI tool training and documentation and help desk capabilities

? Sets design specifications for end-user semantic layers and multi-dimensional models across all BI tools and environments

? Identifies user profiles and designs report delivery environment to meet users’ needs

? Design and develop metrics to monitor the usage of BI solutions

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

OLAP Developer: Responsible for developing OLAP applications using the Cognos tool suite and extract data from the Enterprise Data Warehouse to support the analytical and reporting needs for all of DIRECTV's business units.  Candidate is responsible for requirements' definition, analysis, scope and time estimation in addition to the building of the cubes, scripts, reports and queries.  Candidate adheres to standards and strategic objectives and meets committed timeframes and schedules. As a member of the Analytics/Reporting team s(he) must be able to interface effectively with the user community,  analyze business problems and design good solutions.

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Experience, Knowledge):

Education Desired:  BA/BS in Computer Science, or equivalent Management Information Systems Degree.

Experience Desired:  5-7 years as an applications programmer, with significant time as an OLAP tool application developer (preferably with Cognos).  Should have extensive experience with relational databases such as Oracle and Teradata,  including strong SQL skills.  Must have an understanding of data warehousing fundamentals, good oral and written skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
