Business Systems Analyst - Investments

Job Description: PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION To focus on business process and system problems and opportunities in multiple divisions, as well as our external clients, in order to develop and support technical solutions that meet business goals. Analyze complicated business problems. Define and document business/functional specifications for use in development as well as analyze, recommend, and develop business system solutions. This position requires advanced analytical and software programming skills in order to solve the complex business problems. Act as primary liaison between business and technical communities to interpret and explain recommended technical solutions to business sponsors.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITES

1. Programming/Analysis - Uses business analysis skills coupled with business process knowledge to gather and analyze business requirements and interpret business needs in order to provide in-depth written business/technical specifications and mock-ups for use in development. Uses advanced programming skills to develop systems solutions that meet the needs of multiple business units.

2. Projects - Participates in projects, as assigned. Create appropriate project documentation (i.e. system requirements analysis, system design, test plans, progress reports, etc.). Participates in the development efforts of large and/or complex projects. Plan and conduct meetings in order to liaise with IT and various business units throughout multiple divisions on various initiatives.

3. Business Key Contact - Act as a technical expert and primary contact for systems used in multiple business units. Support can range from ad-hoc troubleshooting to analyzing and resolving moderately complex business problems. Uses basic oral and written communication skills to make technical and non-technical material understandable to business sponsors. Works in conjunction with business partners to help shape tactical direction of investment systems that offer short-term business solutions to reduce risk or create efficiencies.

4. Production Support - Develop alternative recommendations leading to solutions for new systems or enhancements to current systems for more effective utilization. Under supervision, complete tasks necessary to that solution by assuming responsibility for and providing the system development work and business analysis work required while working with the appropriate subject-matter experts through to resolution. Provides on-going day-to-day research of system issues and bugs which includes providing workarounds for issues that cannot be resolved quickly. Work in conjunction with IT to offer solutions that solve business problems, reduce risk, or create efficiencies.

QUALIFICATIONS


High level of analytical and problem solving skills

Understanding of business software/systems analysis techniques

Prior experience in the software development lifecycle

Above average knowledge of Microsoft VB, VBA, and .NET

Knowledge of database design terminology and SQL

Ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization, including external parties

Some experience with project management.

Good customer relationship skills

Good communication skills, both verbal and written

Good negotiation skills

Process oriented

Bachelor's degree - Business, Accounting, MIS or Computer Science or 4 years of relevant work experience preferred
