Basic Function: The Buyer is responsible for all aspects of assigned vendors. This includes, but is not limited to, optimizing overall service level, maximizing margin, reducing investment costs, managing the inventory levels to meet and exceed company goals, executing the buying function in a timely and accurate manner, and maintaining system parameters. The vendors are assigned and may change at any time.

General Responsibilities: The general responsibilities include:

Achieve and maintain service level, working inventory, overstock and slow move goals as directed by management

Work closely with GPP and Strategic purchasing to ensure the maximization of margin opportunities.

Coordinate and implement programs developed by RX Services.

Assist in the management of Cardinal Generic Source programs.

Develop and maintain a professional working relationship with assigned vendors.

Specific Duties, Activities and Responsibilities:

Communicate daily with vendors and divisions.

Execute new product launches by negotiating additional margin opportunities, guaranteed sale, initiating forecast, establish purchasing parameters and ensuring adequate quantities are purchased to cover all customer programs.

Analyze and resolve any vendor service level or inventory performance issues.

Negotiate deals submitted by the vendors to ensure maximum return on Cardinal investment.

Ensure that deals are loaded into the system correctly and that all purchase orders are executed accurately and in a timely fashion.

Analyze and adjust lead-times, forecasts, and all other parameters of assigned vendors.

Provide direction and documentation to Database to ensure accurate vendor and item detail.

Review, approve, and place replenishment orders to maximize margin opportunities while reaching company's service level, working inventory, and slow move objectives.

Work closely with the Inventory Management department to transfer product between divisions or obtain return authorization to ensure maximum return on investment.

Accurately execute special buying arrangements such as trade show, summer catalog, and quarterly inventory builds.

Work with the Divisional Analysts to resolve divisional questions or concerns regarding assigned vendors.

Work with Accounts Payable department to reconcile any outstanding payable issues in a timely manner.

Work with Inventory Management to minimize overstocks.

Work with the appropriate Cardinal business units to ensure the effective return or transfer of manufacturer and divisional discontinued items.

Complete all other tasks in an accurate, timely fashion as instructed by management.

Strong negotiation, organizational, and communication skills.
Strong analytical, math and logistics skills.
PC literate (preferably with Microsoft Office software applications, including Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Word).
RX product knowledge and some industry or distribution experience preferred.
Ability to manage multiple priorities.
Bachelors Degree (preferably business related)
2 or more years buying experience.
SCORE purchasing experience preferred.
