COGNOS Systems Analyst

Description
Perform analysis, design and develop solutions for custom data mart including reports, transformations and loads (i.e. the facilitation of data movement across platforms), frameworks and cubes. Experienced with and knowledge of ReportNet, DecisionStream, and Framework Manager.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities
Responsibilities:

? Designs and constructs business intelligence applications for internal data mart, including source-to-target mappings (DecisionStream) packages, framework design, cube definitions, and ReportNet reports.
? Responsible for on-time delivery of project tasks as assigned by Project Manager or Technical Lead.
? Responsible for definition and documentation of requirements for custom reports and OLAP cubes.
? Responsible for requirements definition and development of reports in support of business customers.
? Leads high-level and detailed analysis and design efforts.
? Validates data model supports reporting requirements.
? Validates the data on custom reporting tables is correctly defined and built for custom reports.
? Validates custom tables are designed to facilitate efficient transformation and loading.
? Validates design and implementation of custom ETL process to facilitate transformation and loading.
? Validates design and implementation of data cleansing processes.
? Responsible for sign off of all unit testing by all appropriate team members.
? Reviews testing documentation with Quality Assurance Analyst.
? Participates in system testing.
? Responsible for validation and accuracy of changes required to resolve defects.
? Responsible for documentation of ETL maps, batches, and processing.
? Understands the technical intricacies of utilizing the company?s standard ETL tools and development languages.
? Possess an extensive working knowledge of all the Business Intelligence tools within Cognos.

Additional Duties:

? Leads the development of source to target mapping documents, taking direction from Technical Lead.
? Responsible for developing system testing strategy with the Technical Lead.
? Responsible for recommending continuous improvement efforts as ETL best practices and standards to the technical leadership team
? Responsible for accurate time accounting practices as directed by Project Manager or Technical Lead.
? Interact with clients to validate solution meets their needs.

Requirements
Qualifications:

Required:
? Proven leadership and mentoring capabilities. Good judgment and the ability to work effectively with a diverse workforce.
? Comprehensive knowledge in the design and implementation of Cognos data warehouse solutions.
? 3+ years in Data Warehousing.
? 3+ years in development of ReportNet reports, Cognos DecisionStream ETL packages, custom data mart development, and frameworks. Strong understanding of Data Warehouse Concepts including star schemas. Experience with Oracle platform environments and languages.
? Demonstrated competence with OLAP tools and Reporting Tool Technologies.
? Strong analytical, interpersonal communication and organizational skills. Ability to debug and problem solve. Ability and desire to mentor others.

Desired:
? Experience with Cognos 8.
? 3+ years experience with Financial systems.
? 3+ years experience with PeopleSoft.

Education required: Bachelor?s Degree or equivalent experience in computer science or related discipline or 5+ years experience with MS/MA/MBA in a related field (Business, CIS, MIS, Mathematics, etc.)
