Cognos DBA - Local Candidates Only

DBA / Developer with Cognos experience to join our Business Intelligence Group.  



We are building a Business Intelligence Group within our Finance Department and are currently searching for a strong individual to help build a strong foundation for enterprise reporting comprised of highly focused Dimensional Datamarts and a reporting system centered around Cognos products including Cognos 8 BI, Cognos Planning 7.3, Cognos Metrics Manager and Cognos Analysis Studio (Powerplay).

 

DBA / Developer

 

We are looking for an Application DBA to build upon our existing datamarts, add tables and fields and expand the existing structure as we continue to grow. Some of the responsibilities will include the following:

 

Responsibilities:

 
Design and develop dimensional data mart models.
Translate user requirements into data flows, data mapping etc.
Modify and build upon existing overall ETL processes and architecture for future expansion.
System Monitoring - Monitor alert logs, dump files and other logs for errors.
Performance Tuning ? able to manipulate environment and other items to enhance speed and performance.
Data Manipulation Stored Procedures, Transaction SQL Data Modeling and Normalization Skills
Continuously improve development and support processes to achieve ongoing cost improvement and quality.
Write and maintain technical documentation to describe program development, logic, coding, testing, changes, and corrections
Design, develop, implement, test, and support solutions using Cognos Reportnet (CRN) functionality and technologies
Create and execute test plans/scripts to find errors and confirm data is correct and balanced.
Manage process reboots, data source modifications, and perform upgrades as necessary .

 

Requirements

 
7-10 years experience working as a DBA in a dynamic, fast paced environment; preferably for a large company.
SQL Server 2003, as well as proficiency in stored procedures, reports, triggers, and data mining.
Strong SQL knowledge and skill set
Data Warehousing and data modeling design concepts (star schemas, snowflakes, dimensions) development and implementation and best practices
Understanding of ETL standards, procedures, coding standards and testing guidelines. Works as a technical resource in program development, testing, and implementation.
Data Manager (Decision Stream) experience.
Shell scripting skills
Knowledge of Cognos toolset, especially Report Net and Metrics Manager, a plus
Performance optimization and tuning skills
SDLC ? Software development life cycle experience
Ability to work with the Reporting Analyst/Developer to design and identify the best data structure for our reporting needs is critical.
Business background required, banking experience a plus
DBA Certification is a plus!
Strong organizational, multi-tasking, documentation and time-management skills
