Core Applications Manager

A client in Rancho Cordova, CA, is seeking a Core Applications Manager for a direct-hire opportunity.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Create realistic schedules and engineering processes to meet product release commitments. Develop software product releases on time and at the highest possible quality.
- Directs the analysis, design, technical architecture, development and modifications of clients; products.
- Communicate project status to appropriate departments and Senior Management.
- Work with various departments in the company on items related to the needs of the development projects and the release of products.
- Responsible for hiring, training, developing and terminating employees.
- Manage software engineers, graphic designer, and lead software engineers by providing hands-on, technical leadership, vision, career development, and mentoring. Manage staff performance through performance planning, coaching, appraisal, and disciplinary efforts.
- Identify employee development gaps and individual training needs.
- Create and manage development plans and schedules.
- Work with the Quality Assurance team to ensure high quality, interoperability, scalability, and robustness of software applications.
- Proactively support senior management and business goals.
- Continuously improve engineering processes and productivities.
- Frequent contact with software engineers, managers, business analysts and other individuals with input to application development. Contact with other departments such as QA/QC, Documentation, Help Desk and Project Management that handle the application after it is released from Software Engineering, as well as with end-users and other individuals in the organization.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering or a related field.
- 8+ years of software engineering industry experience.
- 5+ years experience managing software engineering teams with proven leadership and hands-on management skills.
- 5+ years experience managing large software development projects with strong project management skills and proven track record
- 2-4 years experience in web application development.
- Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal.
- Thorough understanding of interactive software development lifecycle.
- In-depth understanding of quality assurance practices.
- Strong object-orientated development background.
- Experience with internet technologies such as HTML, JavaScript and VBScript.
- Knowledgeable in relational databases (SQL, Oracle), data modeling, and architecture design patterns.
- Knowledge of the Microsoft .Net Framework is a plus.
