DB2 Database Administrator

First Health Services, a Coventry Health Care Company, is currently seeking qualified applicants for the role of DB2 Database Administrator (Sr. Database Administrator) at our office in Glen Allen, VA.

 

GENERAL SUMMARY

 

Develops integrated data and process models, process flows, and logical database designs, and transforms logical designs into physical designs. Designs, tests, implements, maintains and controls the organization?s databases across multiple platforms, technologies and computing environments. Develops and maintains the department?s documentation standards and development process guidelines and tools. Receives limited direction from management. Provides technical guidance to team members and other staff.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Analyzes and designs data and process models, logical databases and physical data base definitions. Designs, implements and maintains databases and database support tools. Conducts performance and tuning reviews for improvements to large and complex databases. Develops alternative solutions to complex and conflicting requirements for logical models and physical databases. Participates in model integration and convergence activities. Participates in the development, implementation, communication and maintenance of the corporate data architecture, and of data management standards and conventions. Assists in the development of project estimates, plans, and timetables. Provides technical support and training and acts as mentor to data administration team members. Provides data element naming consistent with standards and conventions and ensures that data dictionaries are maintained across multiple computing environments. Works closely with architects on data warehouse team on the design and implementation of the database. Provides technical support and training. Provides mentoring and leadership to department staff. Serves as team lead on large projects. Performs other duties as required.

 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

 

Bachelor?s degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent work experience.

 

Significant (usually 7+ years) data processing experience including data/process analysis, systems analysis, and programming in a DB2 DBMS environment with at least 5 years of SQL programming.

 

In-depth knowledge of the causes of and remedies of performance issues in a data warehouse from a SQL and SQL coding perspective.

 

Typically 5+ year?s experience working in a IBM mainframe OS environment, as well as, operating system specific scripting and executions. (JCL).

 

Strong understanding of the systems development process and its relationship to the needs of the business.

 

Thorough knowledge of data and process analysis and data base development technologies and tools.

 

Previous experience (at least 1 year) in project and team leadership/management.

 

Excellent analytical ability, consultative, communication skills, strong judgment and the ability to work effectively with clients, data processing managers and staff.
