Data Warehouse Developer / Analyst Architect Lead


Scope of Role:

This position is for an experienced Data Warehouse Developer/Analyst/Architect. You will report to the Director of Enterprise Applications - responsible for Application Development and Support. This position interfaces closely with the Business Services group, responsible for business requirements, as well as the offshore development/support team in Singapore.

You will be responsible for analysis, design, and data modeling within 3Com's Enterprise Data warehouse (Information Management) applications initiatives. You will define and participate on data warehouse projects ? responsible for any or all aspects of the System Development Life Cycle - from conceptual phase through to implementation. You will be part of a team that supports post-implementation and ensures global SLAs are achieved.

Your job includes evaluation and defining application solutions which achieve business objectives. You will be expected to orchestrate deliveries using global project teams. This is a ?hands-on? position ? and requires the depth/breadth of knowledge needed to pull together a comprehensive, user-friendly reporting environment.

Information Management is responsible for extracting data from various sources like SAP and Siebel. The information is extracted using ETL (Extraction, Transformation and Loading) tool Informatica. The data is loaded into an Oracle database on a Unix platform. End-User reporting and analytics is through both Business Objects and Essbase (accessing the Oracle database). Data cleansing is accomplished through the Trillium tool.

Duties and Responsibilities



Application development, testing, and go-live activities as directed by the Business Services organization.

Responsible for functional & technical design of the data warehouse - including documentation.

Coordinate work tasks with a team of off-shore resources to for global support/development.

Troubleshoot & resolve functionality/data related queries.

Assist in critical interface development/support.

Optimize production support activities - driving down repeat tickets/issues.

Adhere to 3Com IT Change Control and PMO processes for enhancement/projects.

Manage infrastructure and application upgrades as required.

Liaison with EDS and cross-functional project teams ? across geographies ? to meet customer SLA and project deadlines.

Participate in cross-training and knowledge transfer activities with project teams including end-customers.

On-call support as required.

Ensure Sarbanes Oxley 404 compliance and assist with external audits.

Administer and monitor application change management - conduct code reviews.

System optimization - performance analysis and reviews.

Security administration (Design, objects, profiles - create user Ids, reset passwords, creating roles).

Create Unix scripts.

Assist with troubleshooting system problems (space, data errors, SQL statements, interfaces to external systems, etc.)

Develop documentation around system refreshes and reporting data structures.

Define, implement, and maintain operational procedures around supported environments.

Work closely with team members on database design - approving database designs.

Define and document all data mapping and transformation processes.

Train end-user how to use the tools within the data warehouse environment.

Skills and Experience

Working knowledge of Oracle, PL/SQL and Unix scripting is mandatory. Candidates with data warehouse, extract transform and load, OLAP reporting tools will be considered. Prefer tool experience with Informatica, Business Objects, Essbase, Trillium, Maestro job scheduler, and SAP. Many of the IM systems are web based and use workflow technology, working knowledge of J2EE, Java, visual basic, and workflow is a plus. Candidate should possess attitude to learn new skills wherever required.

 

- 8+ years of relevant experience in system development/implementation

- Understanding of software development methodologies and PMO process

- Experience with previous Data Warehouse implementations

? Ability to map business requirements to functionality available in appropriate technologies/platforms

- Visual Basic skills a plus

- Knowledge of Clarify, SAP, or Siebel Data structures a plus

- Experience with SAP BW a plus

- Strong knowledge of IT audit practices - Experience with Sarbanes-Oxley compliance would be a plus

- Experience working with IT off-shore/outsourcing processes are a plus

-Multiple disciplines of data warehousing such as data access, ETL (preferrably Informatica) and data management

-Knowledge of the various architectures and methodologies including metadata, performance management, data quality, schema development, mart vs. warehouse issues

-Extensive knowledge of physical and logical data modelling

-Extensive experience with ERWIN or Designer

-Good understanding of various OLAPs

-Experience with end user reporting, preferrabley Business Objects

-Strong knowledge of SQL, PL/SQL, SQL*Loader (Oracle preferrable)

-Experience with Unix Shell Scripting preferred

 

Qualifications and Education:

You should possess a Degree in Computer Science, Information Management or equivalent with a minimum of 8 years? working experience in Data warehouse and data mining applications. Excellent time management and communication skills are expected. Analytical skills, strong perseverance, a high degree of initiative and independence with the ability to work with people from various backgrounds/cultures, coupled with strong customer and partner interface.
