JOB DESCRIPTION:

 

* Provide logical database administration support to production and development e-commerce environments
* Proactively tune and monitor database activity. Provide tuning recommendations for SQL / schema / high-availability failover process architecture.
* Provide timely response and resolution to system critical events
* Participate in defining corporate architectures and information strategy, including clustering and distributed service architectures.
* Define and generate key baseline metrics with which to monitor and report capacity and system performance
* Partner with application teams to ensure data retention meets requirements, employing and implementing data retention / archiving / partitioning policies where applicable
* Develop and implement security policies in delineating and in support of application, reporting and ad-hoc access requirements
* Create logical data models
* Respond to ad-hoc user requests
* Generate scripts to simplify and automate regular database maintenance, such as index rebuilds, analyze and backup procedures
* Partner with internal teams and external vendors to provide architecture solutions to business critical problems
* Identify potential environment consolidation opportunities

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

* Bachelor?s degree in information systems or equivalent experience
* 3-5+ years with DB2 v8 on UNIX ? esp AIX
* Experience tuning and optimizing the UNIX database platform
* Must understand high availability issues as they relate to databasesExperience with schema design, backup/recovery, troubleshooting, and capacity planning
* Experience with application integration
* Installing and upgrading database and server software and restoring and recovering data
* MS SQL or Oracle administration experience / desire to pick up essential
* Strong problem analysis skills
* Strong written and verbal communication skills
* Ability to quickly learn new tools and technology required
* Commitment to quality and continuous improvement
* Self-motivated, self starter and can effectively manage multiple tasks and proactively recommend initiatives / solution definition
