Database Administrator III

Food Lion is the proud employer of 80,000 associates.The Database Administrator III will develop database systems that are more complex with full competency. Coordinates with users to determine requirements. Analyzes, designs, creates and implements more complex databases including access methods, device allocations, validation checks, organization and security. Designs more complex data models, logical and physical databases, data dictionaries and schemas. Liaises with database software vendors and external technical support on issues such as software upgrades, problems and potential solutions. Reviews systems under development and related documentation. May coordinate activities of the project team and assist in monitoring project schedules and costs.Technical Expertise:AAS or BS degree in computer science or related, 3-5 years of IBM mainframe DB/2 DBA experience.  Defines, implements and maintains the physical representations of logical data base structures.  Makes recommendations to programmers and data architects on changes maximizing performance.Any DBA experience with Microsoft SQL Server v7 or greater.Previous experience managing an Adabas/Natural environment.  Previous experience using/managing CA Endevor code management software.Conducts problem identification and resolution of data base management problems.  Interacts with internal customers assisting with issue resolution and application enhancements.Strong interpersonal and communications skills (including written) is a requirement.Provides support for the user community and computer operations personnel in the day-to-day operation and usage of DB/2.Develops and tests data base backup and recovery plans and ensures that they provide an adequate level of protection Required to be on call for support 7 X 24 on rotating shifts to provide technical support to end users and resolve problems. Sunday, holiday and nighttime work might be required to implement changes when all other users are not using the system.Delivers projects, on time, within scope and within budget. Experience Preferred:AAS or BS degree in computer science or related, 3-5 years of IBM mainframe DB/2 DBA experience.  Defines, implements and maintains the physical representations of logical data base structures.  Makes recommendations to programmers and data architects on changes maximizing performance.
