Database Administrator, Senior

Key Role: Provide DBA support and expertise to a government client in Herndon, VA. Maintain responsibility for installing and configuring database management system (DBMS) software and for implementing specific application databases within a DBMS environment. Manage performance and space utilization for working databases and coordinate or perform backup and recovery operations. Use specialized expertise concerning the inner workings of commercial DBMS systems to optimize the design and tune the performance of database schemas and database applications that use the DBMS. Manage and allocate data storage device utilization and off-line archival storage. Administer a file system, database security access control, and permissions management configurations.



Functional/Industry Knowledge:


-10 years of experience with focused DBA work with Oracle preferred


-Experience with the technical and administration requirements for maintaining specific DBMS environments, including Oracle, Sybase, DB2, and SQL Server


-Experience with systems administration for one or more common operating systems, including Microsoft Windows, UNIX, and Linux at a sufficient level of detail to enable the effective execution of DBMS or file system installation and system administration responsibilities


-Experience with database space utilization analysis, performance analysis, storage optimization, and performance tuning


-Experience with addressing the specialized database and file system security administration requirements for a TS/SCI environment


-Experience with training and work with the technical and administration requirements for specific file storage systems, including SUN, UNIX, and Microsoft as well as various related Storage Area Network technologies


-Knowledge of physical storage management principles, backup and recovery, database security, and other DBA basics


 


Education/Certifications or equivalent required:
BS degree in CS or a related field required
