In this role, you will provide database expertise, research of industry best practices and support of the system and database architecture for DBMS products and application databases.  You will own the design and development of major component and subsystems with the database environments.  We’ll rely on you to partner with worldwide IT organizations and respective business partners in support of approved business and infrastructure projects/services and in the evaluation, recommendation and deployment of the best practices and technologies that will support the business' strategic and annual plans and protect our company's data assets.  Among your key accountabilities, you will, using senior-level technical expertise, support the development of new applications through review of logical database design and application change requests.  Assess and develop implementation approaches and recommendations.  Using skills required of the target DBMS, implement recommendations.  Work with systems personnel to ensure successful implementation of new versions of the DBMS, tools, and utilities.  Maintain currency of DBMS features, patches and known problems.  Install new versions of DBMS, tools and utilities after performing research, documenting potential impact to environment and obtaining stakeholder and management support.  Evaluate technologies and develop recommendations to management based on combined technical and business knowledge.  Participate with other IT stakeholders in product reviews, tests and pilots.Develop work plans and enlist the support of others to ensure that technologies are evaluated within a time-boxed period.  Anticipate and identify issues inhibiting the attainment of project goals and develop and implement corrective actions.  Assist in development, efficiency improvements and implementation of database policies and procedures for data security, database optimization and integrity.  Perform capacity planning and forecasting for the database environment.  Contribute to disaster recovery and business continuity plans.  Ensure database disaster recovery procedures are in place and ready for execution as required.  Participate in 24x7 support escalation for the production database environment.



To qualify, you’ll need a minimum of 4 years Database Administration experience to include performing database design, setup, maintenance and performance tuning.   Position requires experience in SQL Server and Oracle DBMSs.Knowledge to manage the various database environments hosted on both clustered and stand-alone servers.  Strong analytical and problem solving skills.  Ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously in a high-paced environment. Strong oral and written communication skills with ability to communicate technical information clearly and succinctly with both technical and non-technical audiences.  Able to self-manage work and complete systems and database-related initiatives both independently and on a team.
