Job Description:
The Rocky Mountain Laboratories (RML) is a satellite facility under the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), National Institutes of Health (NIH), located in Hamilton, Montana. A wide-area network connection is maintained between RML and the main NIH campus located in Bethesda, Maryland. The RML currently has approximately 230 computers on a local area network, and the computer department staff support about 250 end-users. Computers consist of Microsoft Windows-based systems, Macintosh, Solaris, and Linux units. The RML is undergoing a large scale renovation project, including new network and telecommunications cabling and equipment. The computer department supports and maintains the local area network, all computer and network equipment, cabling infrastructure, and also manages the on-site telecommunications systems.The primary duties of this position are to provide user support and respond to requests for assistance with hardware and software issues; provide technical support services to install and configure hardware and software in Windows-based and Macintosh systems; configure new computer systems and related peripherals for users; process outgoing surplus and do-nation computer equipment, and basic network troubleshooting on a TCP/IP network.

This position requires 3-4 years of related experience.

Specific Skills: Duties include PCMACSolarisLinux user support, assistance with hardwaresoftware issues; installationconfiguration of computer systems, HWSW peripherals, troubleshooting network connectivity issues, installing desktop phones, and assist with maintenance and surplus logistics. Specialized background experience should include Windows-based and Macintosh systems. Flexibility in assignments and ability to structure time according to demand is needed. Relevant past work experience and appropriate Certifications and related specific training are highly desirable.

Environmental Hazards: Working in laboratory environments appropriate care must be taken in order prevent injury.

Physical Requirements: Ability to lift 30 pounds. Ability to climb ladders to access overhead cabling trays. Ability to lift and install computer systems on desktops as well as under desks

Requires a High School diploma or GED and 4-6 years of related experience.
