Director, Quality Engineering

The Director, Quality Engineering, directs the activities of a software quality engineering function.  Develops quality standards for company products and oversees the development and execution of software test plans and analysis of test results.  Provides guidance in the preparation of technical appraisals of testing tools and test scope, test automation software, and related technology.  Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.

 

SCOPE:  Establishes operational objectives and work plans, and delegates assignments to subordinate managers.  Senior management reviews objectives to determine success of operation.  Involved in developing, modifying and executing company policies that affect immediate operations(s) and may also have company-wide effect.  Oversight and responsibility for day-to-day tactical execution of project QE support, as well as defining and driving the overall strategic QE vision.


JOB COMPLEXITY:  Works on issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth knowledge of organizational objectives, as well as an understanding of the company organizational matrix and how to drive initiatives through this organization.  Implements strategic policies when selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.  Establishes and assures adherence to budgets, schedules, work plans and performance requirements.


DISCRETION:  Maintain the critical balance between business needs and drivers of time-to-market and quality risk.  Erroneous decisions could result in critical delay(s) in schedules or business unit operations, and/or may jeopardize overall business activities.


INTERACTION:  Regularly interacts with senior management or executive levels on matters concerning several functional areas, divisions, and/or customers.  Requires the ability to change the thinking of, or gain acceptance from, others in sensitive situations, without damage to the relationship.


SUPERVISION:  Manages activities of three or more sections or departments through subordinate managers who exercise full supervision in terms of costs, methods, and staffing.  In some instances this manager may be responsible for managing staff function and may not have subordinate managers.




Minimum Qualifications:
At least 15 years overall IT experience
At least 5 years in an IT lead role, managing others
At least 3 years successful Test Leadership experience
Exceptional organization and communication skills
Ability to work well in a high stress/high demand environment with minimal guidance or assistance
Cooperative work attitude
Undergraduate degree in related field, or equivalent

Experience with Travel Industry
Experience and knowledge of both Mainframe and Open Systems environments
Experience and knowledge of Mercury Interactive toolset
