Disaster Recovery/Business Continuity

Our client in Raleigh is seeking a short-term (6 month) contractor to provide technical advice to Information Technology management related to the requirements and alternatives to achieve Disaster Recovery (DR) and Business Continuity objectives for their Remote Service Center (RSC). The tasks involve collaboration with Client's business continuity planning liaison, operations manager, security liaison, applications development managers and Unemployment Insurance (UI) program staff.

Critical systems on this platform include filing of Initial Claims for UI benefits and filing of weekly certifications for continued claims.

The selected candidate will perform the following tasks:
- An analysis of Client's disaster recovery and business continuity requirements for Remote Service Center applications, including verification and prioritization of critical applications.

- An analysis of existing business continuity infrastructure (policies, procedures and environment) including system and database back up and restoration capabilities, environmental controls and vulnerabilities, network design, host planning, design, and operational procedures for scalability, survivability, and recovery.

- Development and documentation of DR and Business Continutity Plan (BCP) requirements, plans and operations procedures.

- Development of test and evaluation methods for verification of DR and BCP strategic elements.

- Validation of analysis and recommendations against Client's DR and BCP as filed with the state CIO.
 Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements.Required:
- Minimum of three years experience in developing business continuity and/or disaster recovery plans for mid to large sized businesses hosting internet and/or client server applications.

Client requires the proposed candidate demonstrate the following:

- Experience developing BCP/DR test scenarios to validate plan and operations requirements.

- A strong understanding of BCP and DR principles and practices.

- A strong understanding of network principles and distributed host computing architectures.

Preferred:
- Proficient consulting skills to work with and advise senior technical and management staff of ESC in the subject areas of network management and database management systems support.

- Mentoring and instructional skills for the purpose of knowledge transfer to ESC employees who may have limited experience with BCP/DR planning and operations.
