Overview

 

Environmental Data Analyst (EDA) for a large refinery's Business Unit.  It is located in the El Segundo area, just south of Los Angeles, and only miles from the beautiful beaches of sunny Southern California. The worksite is comprised of a 270,000 bpd refinery, a 385-megawatt cogeneration plant, and a petroleum coke calciner plant that produces gasoline, diesel, commercial jet fuel and byproducts, including petroleum coke, sulfur and NGLs. This Business Unit has approximately 1,050 employees.

 

The EDA will assist with assessing data and creating deliverables to support compliance with Environmental regulations (primarily air).

 

Roles & Responsibilities

 

? Retrieve and assess quality of data received from refinery instrumentation and analyzers.

? Improve and implement written procedures to support creation of regulatory deliverables.

? Build new tools and improve existing tools to track day-to-day compliance and generate quarterly, semi-annual, and annual submittals.  Tool development is based on one or more of the following: Access, Excel, SQL Server, PI, and web development tools.

? Interact with several refinery groups, including process control, instrumentation engineers, and maintenance technicians to ensure reliability of environmental data.

? Work with Air Compliance Engineers to interpret and incorporate new regulations as they relate to current refinery data management and reporting practices.

? Possibly perform environmental training for refinery personnel.

 

Note: The qualified candidate must have database experience as described below; however, candidate sought for this position would have entry-level job experience.

 

Experience

 

? Experience in spreadsheet design using Excel, and database design using Access and/or SQL Server, and development of simply applications using Access and/or Visual Basic. 

? Excellent communications and negotiating skills; analytical skills; ability to perform in a fast-paced organization; attention to detail; team-oriented.

? Preferred degree in engineering.

? Preferred one-year refinery or industry experience.

? Knowledge of and/or interest in air regulations, particularly rules that rely heavily on instrumentation and analyzers to demonstrate compliance (e.g. 40 CFR 60 NSPS Subpart J and 40 CFR 63 Subpart UUU, AQMD Rules 1173 and 1118).

? Preferred background with PI or similar process historian.
