Job Description: DATA WAREHOUSE DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR
POSITION SUMMARY

Grant Thorntons Global Public Sector, based in Alexandria, VA, is a global management consulting business with the mission of providing responsive and innovative financial, performance management, and systems solutions to governments and international organizations.

We have a potential engagement in Salem that will start in early September.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Install, configure, and validate database software products.
- Analyze business and technical requirements, as well as data warehouse data models, to understand the detailed data management requirements.
- Designing and documenting the physical database environment, including tablespaces, tables, indexes, views, and other database objects.
- Designing and documenting data security and asset protection techniques that meet business requirements.
- Developing scripts for the creation of the physical data warehouse database schema(s), data security and protection, managing performance, performing backups/ restores, and archiving data.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related discipline is required.
- 2-3 years of hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2000 or Oracle (version 9.x or later) in a data warehousing environment.
- Database design including appropriate use of indexes and constraints, designing for performance in tables containing millions of rows and databases larger than 100 Gigabytes.
- Modeling and design for data warehousing (dimensional data modeling and star schema design) preferred.
- Database development and testing, including bulk data loads, SQL scripting, stored procedures, and triggers.
- Database performance analysis and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of data modeling techniques - normalization and denormalization, and design for decision support.
- Knowledge of data modeling standards - ERD or UML.
- U.S. Citizenship preferred; Applicant eligible to receive a security clearance preferred.
- Experience defining and discussing detailed business requirements and processes with clients' business representatives, as well as consulting teams.
- Ability to interact with diverse personalities in a distributed team environment that includes client personnel, external business partners, product vendors, and competitors.
- Managing and delivering assigned work products to schedule.
- Good oral and written communications skills.
