GSRT - Senior Database Administrator

Job Description: The Global Systems Run Team of Boston Scientific is charged with 24/7 production support responsibilities of multiple highly customized ?Commercial Off the Shelf? applications. These applications range from single program-single business community to world-wide enterprise applications. The GSRT Sr DBA is a key technical leadership position and will support the entire production support team as they maintain the varied applications.
Environment details: Windows 2000 and 2003 servers running various versions of SQL Server 2000. Some databases are clustered.
The GSRT Senior Database Administrator possesses the following characteristics:

Has excellent overarching Database design and administration skills based on 8+ years of experience with complex enterprise databases.

Has particular strengths in database security, replication, back-up and recovery implementation and maintenance e.g. troubleshooting replication issues, restarts, updates to replications rules, etc.

Plans and coordinates the administration of the all databases supported by GSRT to ensure accurate, appropriate and effective use of data; including data definition, structure, documentation, long-range requirements, and operational guidelines. Augments application development support including updates to data models, creation and maintenance of data access code (typically stored procedures), optimization of existing SQL in an OLTP environment.

Performs quality control audits to ensure accuracy completeness and proper usage of data in tables and support tools, such as database dictionaries. Reviews database design and integration of systems and makes recommendations for enhancements or improvements.

Formulates policies and procedures and enforces standards relating to database management.

Monitors transaction activity and utilization, with particular strengths in performance tuning highly transactional databases in both the development and production environments including remotely located servers.

Has excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills with a strong ability to influence through presence and knowledge and is a proficient problem solver, has the ability to acquire new skills quickly, and thrive in a collaborative team environment.

Promotes regular training on different technical topics for the team as well as for individuals.

Other Requirements:

Job requires periodic overtime and occasional 24/7 on-call support.

Experience working in a distributed computing environment, multi-connection and fault tolerant environments.

Partner with consultants and internal technical resources as well as business process group.

BS-CS or related degree required.
