Government/Corporate Bond Desk Developer

The Desk Development team, which services the Gov Bond and Corp Bond desk, seeks a hands-on developer for the IT initiatives that address the needs of the Gov Bond trading/sales/research desk based in Stamford. Currently, the IT efforts include a substantial portfolio of analytics reports, web-based interactive tools, applets, as well as specific risk computation process, and MIS reports.

* The role will be involved in all aspects of Gov Bond IT development, maintenance, infrastructure and daily production.

* The role will also be a contributor to the re-design and development of an enhanced overnight research report generation process

Key Targets & Objectives of Role

* Work with clients (Gov Bond trading/sales/research desk,) to clarify and document business requirements.

* Work on implementation and development effort, base on the priority expressed by clients, as well as priority from within IT.

* Ensure that business requirements are met in a time- and cost-effective manner, and in a way that is consistent with the longer term strategic direction within the team.

* Resolve business issues in a timely manner, balancing the technical solution by taking into account the cost/benefit..

* Rationalization and consolidation of the underlying technology and code base, leveraging synergy, where possible, with Corp Bond IT development. Ensure that existing applications are maintained and upgraded as appropriate, and maximise use of established components.

* Be a team player - develop lines of communication with the existing IR IT development team (both regional and global), the regional production support team, and other groups involved in creating the solution, such as the IR Analytics IT team.

* Ensure that all solutions are sustainable in terms of application support and system documentation.

* Ensure that assigned development follows all guidelines set by the IT organisation globally, and any regional initiatives.

Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor Degree in Computer Science or related discipline.
- Knowledge of the US Interest Rates marketplace.
- Knowledge of technology marketplace.
- Knowledge of Bond Analytics.
- Knowledge of Excel.
- Knowledge of VBA programming language.
- Some background in other web-based technologies (e.g. ASP, HTML, Perl).
- Knowledge of Sybase relational databases.
- Knowledge of UNIX and W2K.

Preferred Qualifications
- Strong client orientation / must have good interpersonal skills.
- Aware of need for standards and quality.
- Responsibility / must be able to take ownership of tasks.
- Team orientation / take an interest in the work of the wider development team, and liaise where appropriate with other groups (such as data owners, production support IT and FI Analytics).
- Delivery oriented / used to meeting strict deadlines, whilst producing quality work.
- Understand need to apply technology for business benefit rather than purely from technical interest.
- Knowledge of C# / .Net is desirable.
