High Availability Linux Senior Engineer
JOB OPPORTUNITY The Senior Engineer role is a key position within the Operations Maturity team. This is a senior technical position that requires an extensive background in managing and implementing large scale distributed environments. This position will be focused on maintaining and enhancing our current email gateway infrastructure, while still supporting other aspects of the CheckFree Unix/Linux Environment. We are looking for a technically skilled individual with good analytical skills and a strong work ethic to be responsible for deploying and maintaining the 24x7 operations of all internal Linux/Unix hardware and software in our operating environments and for proactively pursuing performance improvements to enhance service offerings. Works within IT Infrastructure Service Team to implement, audit, and update standard operating procedures and documentation for the improvement of delivery and operational maturity. The ideal candidate will exhibit strong troubleshooting skills and be able to work effectively in a team.

Essential Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Maintain, support, and enhance CheckFree?s internet email gateway systems, which central email inbound and outbound processing which provide SPAM, AntiVirus, and message rewriting technologies to multiple business units maintaining internal email systems using Lotus Notes and Exchange.
Investigate and resolve incoming questions (phone and e-mail) and issues in a timely and effective manner.
Create well-written knowledge articles for all issues not already documented to reduce troubleshooting and research time of future calls.
Developing and implementing Systems documentation and Operational procedures.
Able to work with customers and internal departments to resolve issues.
Provide excellent customer service to customer for a positive technical support experience.
Willing to be flexible and work flexible hours when necessary to achieve team or individual goals.
Must work effectively as part of a team
Report to management new process issues that impact customers. Especially, when no procedure or process is in place for a given situation or when an existing process or procedure may need to be modified.
Responsible for System support and troubleshooting
Strong knowledge of TCP/IP networking.
Making recommendations, enhancements and installations of both homegrown tools as well as open standards-based tools.
Conduct system analysis and make recommendations
Experience in on-call environments. Participate in a 24x7 on-call support rotation and off-hours maintenance windows.
Support other aspects of CheckFree?s distributed infrastructure, including applications such as BEA Weblogic, Apache, PeopleSoft and operating systems such as Linux, HPUX, Solaris, and AIX.
Ability to help others in a fast paced and perpetually changing systems environment.
Ability and willingness to assume a leadership role; must mentor and instruct others on the team in a positive and beneficial manner.
Skills Required:
Minimum of five years experience as a Linux Systems Administrator with at least three years supporting a highly available 24x7-production environment.
Proficiency with Enterprise Linux distributions such as, RedHat AS/ES 2.1/3.0/4.0
In-depth understanding of configuration and maintenance SMTP Email, preferably postfix and sendmail, DNS (BIND/TINY DNS) and NTP.
Provide Shell and Perl scripting (required)
Understanding of how to implement, maintain, and upgrade SPAM and AntiVirus software to work in postfix and/or sendmail environment with connections to Exchange and Lotus Notes.
Working knowledge of SpamAssassin, ClamAV, Razor, Pyzor, GBL, content filters and other SPAM blocking technology.
Proficiency with High Availability systems, including hardware load balanced systems and cluster technology such as Veritas Cluster server, HP MCServicGuard, or Microsoft Cluster Server.
Understanding of Web server administration (IIS, WebLogic, Apache)
Must be self-motivated, able to multi-task and manage priorities effectively, and work well as a part of a team.
Strong customer service skills with high level of professionalism, and ability to work with complex situations
Must be able to work in high stress situations without sacrificing customer service or level of detail
Experience with automated system builds and configuration management tools
Working knowledge of networking protocols and components including TCP/IP, NFS, DNS, and NTP
Willingness and capability of quickly learning new technologies required for accomplishing project goal
Excellent people and communications skills
Ability to weigh proposed designs with both Security & Risk-focused approach.
Strong Analytical skills; solving problems and drawing conclusions.
Excellent interpersonal skills via phone, in writing and in person.
Infrastructure/System experience on UNIX platforms (Linux, Solaris, and HP-UX), utilizing network (NFS) and SAN attached storage.
Skills Desired:
Maintaining a highly available Linux/Java online production environment
Release and configuration management, utilizing tools such as BladeLogic
Experience programming (Java,C/C++,PHP) is a plus.
Windows Server 2003 Administration with a willingness to learn more in the Windows environment.
Familiarity with cryptographic tools (e.g. OpenSSL ) .
Experience in an e-Commerce environment
A good understanding of the administration of secure web servers such as Apache with mod_ssl; Application Servers such as BEA Weblogic, and middleware such as IBM WebSphere MQ, IBM DB2 Connect, and IBM CTG.
Proven knowledge of automating Enterprise and/or homegrown application deployments; BEA Webogic Application Server, WebSphere MQ, Apache.
Maintain and recommend improvements for the J2EE, Oracle, and Weblogic infrastructure
Workload automation, including writing custom scripts, enterprise scheduling i.e. CA7, Maestro, etc.
MySQL database server administration.
Educational Requirements:
BS in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience. RHCE is a plus
