INFORMATION DEVELOPER

Description:An intermediate-level professional, the Information Developer is a fully qualified individual producer who applies a broad knowledge of publication concepts and practices. Incumbents are competent to work on assignments of low to moderate complexity, or portions of more complex assignments and perform a full range of duties. Incumbents apply industry, client, and/or ACS? standards and work under general supervision. The Information Developer generally is subject to tight publication deadlines and is capable of handling heavy workloads. Errors at this level can cause delay, expense, and/or disruption to the organization.

Works on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action. Builds productive internal/external working relationships.

May perform one or more of the following duties:

-- Writes and maintains release notes, technical user documentation, end user documentation, online help, and education/training materials using current desktop publishing, graphic, help authoring, and other computer software.
-- May peer edit the work of other information developers
-- Participates in reviewing software requirements, use cases, user interface designs, and software design specifications
-- Ensures accuracy in grammar and usage as well as conformity to standards as established in ACS style guides for printed documentation and online help
-- Follows established practices and procedures for documentation, including those for configuration management (CM)
-- Participates in efforts to develop, improve, and maintain processes, practices, procedures, and job aids for the information development area
-- Maintains proficiency in documentation tools for desktop publishing, help development, screen captures, and others as needed
-- Provides or coordinates special documentation services, as needed
-- May act as project leader, as required (senior level)
-- All other duties as assigned.

REPRESENTATIVE PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reviews existing publications for purpose of modifying, revising and/or rewriting and works with originators to determine timely, cost-effective approaches.

Keeps apprised of developments in field of expertise to ensure currency.

Education and Typical Years of Experience:Bachelors Degree in related field (English, Communications, Journalism, Technical Communications) or equivalent work experience.

3 - 5 years progressively more responsible experience in technical/professional services environment, demonstrating familiarity with a broad range of publication assignments.
Specific Requirements:Candidates should live (or be willing to relocate at their own expense) within daily commuting distance of Lexington, KY; telecommuting is not an option for this position.

-- Intermediate information design skills
In addition to competence with MS-Office applications, candidates should have experience with FrameMaker, Quadralay WebWorks, RoboHelp, Visio or other desktop publishing and help authoring tools.

Optional:
Basic to intermediate skills in curriculum development/instructional design.

Those selected for interview should be able to provide recent (past 6-12 months) examples of their work.
