IS Consultant - Staples.com

Summary: The successful candidate in this role will play a leadership role in the performance and capacity management of Staples.com. This role is essential to ensuring that the performance of Staples.com can be counted as a competitive differentiator and that the website has the capacity to support our business plan. In addition to deep technical expertise, the ability to work effectively across other IS functions, and to understand and communicate in business terms is critical to this role.
Develop processes and associated documentation for performance and capacity planning procedures. This includes the regular review of production workload characteristics.
Work with our Business partners to gather business forecasts to incorporate business plans into capacity forecasts.
Publish monthly, quarterly, and yearly performance and capacity reports. Present executive summary reports to IS and Business stakeholders.
Regularly compare the performance and capacity plan to actual statistics.
Model various technical and business scenarios to understand their implication(s) to performance and capacity.
Work closely with your Application Development and Quality Management peers throughout the SDLC to ensure that our performance and capacity plans are maintained as new code is delivered. Specifically:
Provide thought leadership on areas of the application to be performance tested, approach, simulated volumes, and durations.
Work with Application Development teams to identify and correct code that is identified as having performance issues.Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job
Masters of Science in computer science or related discipline preferred
ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) Foundation Certified
Java certification or J2EE enterprise architect certification
7-10 years overall technical experience
3 - 5 years in a senior technical role
Expert level understanding of Java, core J2EE components, JVM statistics, and JVM tuning (preferably on WebSphere Application Server)
Experience with large implementations of J2EE technologies
Experience with WebSphere, WAS and WCBE experience is a plus
Experience with application code profiling tools and algorithmic analysis
Website experience with JSP, XML, and HTML
Proficient with relational database management systems; preferably DB2 and Oracle
Coding proficiency in the following: Unix Shell, SQL, Java, JavaScript, XML
Experience with one or more operating system, AIX and Red Hat Linux experience is preferred
Experience delivering reports to senior management
Knowledge of business processes Staples is NOT using third parties for this position.
