IT Manager / iSeries Programer
IT Manager / iSeries Programmer
Our hyper-market retail chain is seeking a replacement for our retiring IT Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing our ILE RPG & CL programs and associated documentation for keeping up and even surpassing our user needs. With the exception of fax and some PC file output utilities, all our applications were developed in-house. Our AS/400 applications include Inventory System (Master Files, POS interface, Physicals, Orders, etc.), Human Resources (Personnel, Time & Attendance, & Payroll), Accounting (Payables, Receivables, General Ledger, etc.). Most programs have evolved along with the AS/400 source language developments and are therefore easy to debug (rarely necessary) and modify. Only ?green screens? are currently being used to input well edited data.
Our IT department is very small; there is only this position, a full time operator, and a weekend operator. The manager is obviously responsible for the host system operators who also monitor the system for unusual occurences, handle supply ordering, do some PC network maintenance {troubleshoot, add printers, install software, etc.). Much of the PC network is currently being done by consultants. There is no other AS/400 programmer.
The IT manager is not responsible for the Point of Sale (POS) System itself, but is of the data from and to it on the AS/400.
Other Responsibilities
▪ Communicate with our executives, associates, and suppliers to determine their needs
and desires and come up with workable solutions.
▪ Make our users well informed of all changes.
▪ Keep up with new computer technology and implement when appropriate.
▪ Review & purchase all computer hardware and software for company.
▪ Also responsible for control of always expanding personal computer network (which
includes iSeries 5250 emulation, Symbol Radio Frequency 5250 emulation,
email, FTP, file servers, etc.)
Education / Experience
▪ Minimum of 3 years RPG programming experience required.
▪ Good Understanding of Windows, Outlook, Excel, & Word.
▪ Experience with text & graphics documentation software (currently Visio).
▪ Retail experience is a plus.
Training
The company will provide training for many months with the current IT manger before he leaves. This is a good opportunity for the successful candidate to become familiar with our company and programs, and an opportunity for us to meet the requirements of our new owners.
