IT OPERATIONS MANAGER

Thompson Technologies has an immediate need for an IT Operations Manager for New York City.

Our client is looking for an IT Operations Manager with solid leadership experience managing web/application development, Linux/Unix, and Networking Infrastructure teams.

MANAGERIAL AND LEADERSHIP SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Direct supervisory/management experience over a team of Operations Analysts and Engineers is required.
- Proven ability to foster a rewarding work environment that encourages technical and professional growth, along with optimal productivity, is required.
- Experience in a production and UAT environment [24/7/365] is required.
- Experience with production issue resolution is required.
- Experience establishing organizational service level agreements, business processes, policies and procedures for problem resolution, outage notification and production change notifications, and compliance enforcement is required.
- Experience with tools such as Jira used to help institute standardized workflows and escalation procedures, help enforce guidelines for setting priorities, and maintain users, group, and project permissions for operations, infrastructure and development projects is essential.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
- This position will be responsible for architecting and implementing of the next-generation system monitoring strategy and will require the application of knowledge of development tools such as various scripting languages, Perl, Ruby, Python, and Java to integrate with production systems through various interfaces including SNMP, log file parsing, basic Layer 2 and Layer 3 checking and interactive sessions on Layer 4 through Layer 7 of the OSI model.
- Web application development background centered on Java with good experience debugging Java error messages contained in Java logs is essential.
- From a scripting language perspective, the candidate must be familiar with regular expressions, calling common Linux/Unix utilities, and using libraries of functionality.
- From a source and version control perspective, the candidate should be versed in either command line cvs or subversion.
- The environment relies heavily on open sourced projects and tools such as Linux (PPC and x86), Apache, Jakarta/Tomcat, Jboss, Nagios, and others.
- This person should also be quite familiar with SQL and SQL performance to be able to provide feedback to the Development and DBA groups.
- Bachelors Degree or higher.


RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for overseeing and ensuring the functional integrity, optimal performance and maximum service availability (300+ servers; transaction and batch processing, client API, IVR, consumer, client and internal web applications), applying industry best practices for system maintenance, identifying problems and inefficiencies in the current environment and making strategic recommendations for future development.
- The position will require continuous charting of the plan to improve Production and UAT systems operation and build out the Technical Operations group.
- Daily tasks will include prioritizing problem resolution, scheduling system maintenance, interaction with internal organizations such as Client and Cardholder Services, Account Managers, Production Planners, Application Development, Quality Assurance, and various other infrastructure groups.
- Other tasks will include staying informed of client and organizational needs and changes and factoring those changes into Technical Operations.
- This person will, at times, interact with vendors.
