The Eclipse Foundation manages the infrastructure for the eclipse.org open source community.  We are looking for an extremely motivated individual with thorough technical knowledge to contribute to the development of tools for the community, provide support to the Eclipse Foundation staff and to assist in managing the Eclipse Foundation's IT infrastructure. The infrastructure is mainly based on open-source software using Linux, Apache, MySQL and other well known solutions.

 

Reporting to the IT Manager in Ottawa, Canada, the ideal candidate would possess the following skills and aptitudes:

 Extremely self motivated, ongoing learner, self starter. Ability to work individually without supervision on team-oriented goals. Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, listening). Strong, troubleshooting and problem determination skills. Strong customer service orientation. Ability to prioritize multiple projects simultaneously. A passion for working with open source software. Open minded to changes in job roles and responsibilities Willing to travel occasionally

 

Programming skills:Thorough knowledge of PHP and Perl. Proven track record of designing and building web-based tools and applications using scripting and database technologies such as PHP and MySQL. Knowledge of Java and/or JSP programming an asset. Experience with Eclipse and Eclipse plugins an asset.

 

Systems administration skills:Solid Unix/Linux system administration skills, including file permissions and systems security. Thorough knowledge of TCP/IP and IP networking (DNS, firewalls, routing, connectivity troubleshooting, etc..). Experience implementing, testing and troubleshooting Apache web servers an asset. Experience administering relational databases, mailing lists, rsync and ssh services are definite assets. Willing to provide on-call support on a 7/24 basis one week a month. Knowledge of standard IT principles.

 

Some travel will be required.
