IT Security Administrator

This long term contract position for an IT Security administrator is in Albany New York.Initial position will be via 1099 contract with our IT consulting comapny with optional provisions for eventual direct hire. You will be assigned the lead IT security administrator and will be point person responsible oversight and development of IT system security procedures and policies in a large state-wide IP network currently under construction.

 

You will use the latest IT security tools including CrossBeam security appliances, RSA, CheckPoint Firewalls, SourceFire Intrusion Detection, CiscoSecure ACS, RADIUS, TACACS, HPOV, Concord eHealth and other products to secure and monitor an expansive IT environment including Cisco  Routers and switches, IP telephony, Unix servers, Microsoft servers and Internet users.

 

This contract offers the selected individual the opportunity to form new policy and procedures in a 'greenfield' IT environment - you will be involved in the initial deployment stage of a state-wide IT and network deployment and as such you will be able to apply your best practices knowledge to get things right in the beginning (during the build stage). Successful candidate will be exposed to a showcase of new technologies and will work with a diverse group of fun loving technical talents.

 

Job Purpose:

 

Secures enterprise information assets by assessing security requirements; planning, implementing, and testing, and monitoring security systems; administering access controls; identifying and responding to intrusions.

Duties:

* Assesses security requirements by studying business requirements; conducting system security and vulnerability analyses and risk assessments; studying architecture/platform.

* Plans security systems by developing security standards, policies, and procedures; defining access levels and group isolation; adhering to industry standards.

* Implements security systems by installing preventive measures; administering access controls, user IDs, passwords, and keys; conducting security awareness programs; providing help desk support; completing documentation.

* Verifies security systems by conducting tests and audits.

* Monitors security by identifying and authenticating system users; identifying and reacting to incidents and intrusions; ensuring compliance to standards, policies, and procedures; maintaining, distributing, and storing data.

* Upgrades security systems by monitoring security integrity; identifying security gaps; evaluating and implementing enhancements.

* Prepares security reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing system use data and trends; logging unauthorized attempts to access protected resources and commands.

* Updates job knowledge by tracking and understanding emerging security practices and standards; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.

* Enhances department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.


 

Skills/Qualifications:

Network Security, Network Protocols, TCP/IP Networks, Reporting Skills, Analyzing Information, Decision Making, Process Improvement, Verbal Communication, Functional and Technical Skills, Dependability, Information Security Policies. CISSP is a plus.

 

This position is a steady 1099 contract job (for at least one year - you will be an independent contractor) with eventual transition to permanent W-2 position if parties are agreeable.

 

Solid written communications skills are a big plus.
