Duties And Responsibilities:

Reports to the Computer Desktop Support Supervisor as part of a support team for Faculty and Staff. Provide all levels of computer support (including tier 3) to FAS Faculty and Staff primarily residing in the Humanities departments. Support and train users on a wide range of software including Windows and Macintosh Operating Systems, email, network applications, word processing, spreadsheets, calendaring, database, Web and multimedia applications. Evaluate users' computing needs and assist with hardware and software choices to meet those needs. Troubleshoot, repair and replace hardware for PC and Macintosh systems as well as laser printers. Troubleshoot and repair network jacks and connectivity problems. Track and maintain service calls in a help desk management database while providing follow-up to users via phone, email or verbal communication. Work closely with other staff in FAS Computer Services as part of a larger support effort for assistance to Faculty and Staff. Additional duties as required.

 

Required Education, Experience and Skills:

Bachelor's degree strongly preferred with minimum 3 years professional desktop computer support experience. Excellent hardware and software troubleshooting skills; knowledge of Internet and other technical resources; awareness of trends and advancements in Information Technology. Proficient with Windows 2000/XP and Macintosh OSX. Exposure to Windows 95, 98, NT, Apple 9.x, Novell, Linux and UNIX a plus. Solid interpersonal and customer service skills with good oral and written communication skills. Able to work independently, as well as in team environment. Certification in A+, Apple, Dell, IBM or HP preferred. Some heavy lifting required (25 lbs. or more).
