Position Duties

Perform installation, maintenance and repair of various IT related equipment, utilizing accepted practices and procedures. Perform testing and acceptance procedures, and produce required documentation. Demonstrate working knowledge and understanding of various IT systems, related equipment and business processes. Provide assistance to others when required. Demonstrate consistent and reliable problem solving, troubleshooting, communication, and customer service skills. Focus on safe work practices. Acquire knowledge and understanding of company policies and procedures. Utilize knowledge gained to assist others in an area. Focus on learning and advancing present levels of competency in required areas. Work to acquire an understanding of business unit and customer requirements. Remain flexible to changing work schedules and priorities, adjusting resource demands as required. Gain knowledge / skills on required equipment, materials, systems and business processes. Maintain in-depth working knowledge of databases and record keeping systems for project and asset tracking. Follow and ensure all AEP Policies, Procedures and Safety Guidelines are adhered to at all times.

 

Work Hours / Travel Requirements

40 hours per week. Some overtime is to be expected during work activities. Some local or system travel may also be required during maintenance activities as well as for company sponsored training. Employee will be required to wear a company provided pager and/or cellular telephone. A valid state drivers license will be required at all times.

 

Education/Experience Requirements

Associates Degree in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering Technology or related field

Minimum of 5 years related technical experience demonstrated through advanced knowledge and ability from education, training, certifications and practical applications.

Special Skills / Training :

Technical Proficiency: Has an in depth understanding and is able to demonstrate abilities in one or more of the following areas. Electronics knowledge and application is a plus for this position.



1. Computer Systems ?Demonstrate in depth knowledge of computer and associated equipment, PC?s and handheld units (including PDA?s), as well as advanced troubleshooting techniques and processes of each. Exhibit ability to configure more complex or specialized Computer hardware components, Operating systems and Business Unit and Corporate Software applications, and may have basic server knowledge. Exhibit a positive safety culture in all aspects.

2. EMS/SCADA Systems ? Demonstrate in depth knowledge and understanding of principles in the installation and maintenance of RTU equipment. Apply safe work practices and procedures to all equipment. Demonstrate in depth understanding of telemetry equipment and able to apply proper troubleshooting practices and procedures. Demonstrate in depth understanding of power systems, and requirements for safe operation of UPS systems.

3. Networking Systems ?Exhibit in depth understanding of LAN/WAN system requirements in the installation and maintenance of routers, switches and related equipment. Demonstrate understanding of wireless devices and requirements. Exhibit in depth understanding of digital terminating devices and required hardware. Demonstrate understanding of safe maintenance practices and procedures. Exhibit understanding of equipment wiring requirements and practices. Demonstrate in depth understanding of IP systems and architecture.

4. Radio Systems ?Demonstrate in depth knowledge and understanding of Land Mobile radio systems, including all types of two way radio equipment, remote control, multiple access, GPS and antenna systems. Demonstrate in depth understanding of control methods involving multi-site controllers, data gateways, and telephone interconnection systems. Exhibit in depth understanding of IP related radio systems.

5. Transport Systems - Exhibit in depth knowledge and understanding of equipment used in the transport of telecommunications signals including analog/digital/spread spectrum microwave and fiber optic systems. Demonstrate in depth understanding of fiber optic cable and splice methods and requirements. Exhibit in depth understanding of channel multiplexing methods and techniques, along with wiring requirements including AC/DC power systems. Exhibit in depth understanding of maintenance and equipment requirements

6. Voice/Video Systems ? Exhibit in depth understanding in the installation and maintenance of voice/video systems, including PBX, key systems, voice mail and video conferencing equipment. Exhibit in depth knowledge and understanding of IP related systems for proper operation. Exhibit in depth understanding of wiring and power requirements for safe operation. Exhibit understanding of recording requirements and equipment as well as processes and procedures.
