The Avondale Information Technology (IT) Department is seeking a self-motivated, career oriented individual to join our Support Section. Our IT Wireless Communications Engineer will be responsible for working with the senior network engineer to support the development of complex wireless communications systems. The role is to ensure the stability and integrity of the City?s wireless network infrastructure ensuring the quality of voice, data, video, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and traffic communications. This is achieved by planning, designing, developing, monitoring and reporting on the wide area networks (WANs) across the organization. In addition, this position will participate with the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all network hardware, software, and communication links. This individual will analyze and resolve wireless network hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide end user training where required. Also, must be able to construct alternative designs based on best use of technology, wireless network optimization process efficiency and cost restrictions.
Qualifications: A Bachelor?s degree in Management Information Systems (MIS), Computer Science or a related field, preferably supplemental by advanced course work in management or MIS; or any equivalent combination of experience, education and training which provides the desired knowledge, skills and abilities. Four years experience and success with LAN, WAN, WLAN, and WWAN design and implementation. Five years experience with networking technologies such as Ethernet, ATM, TCP/IP, and LAN/WAN/MAN. Experience designing, implementing, maintaining and supporting wireless communications in the 4.9 GHz, 5.8 GHz, 2.8 GHz, EVDO, CDMA spectrum as well as laser communications. Experience designing, installing, configuring monitoring and reporting with one or all of the following hardware devices; Cisco Mobile Access Routers, Proxim point-to-multi point, Proxim point-to-point, Terabeam laser, and Lightpoint. Experience with wireless network capacity planning, wireless network security principles, and general network management best practices. Applicant must possess an Arizona Driver?s License at the time of hire.
