ESS (Enterprise Shared Services) IT, one of the seven global streams within UBS Investment Bank's IT group, develops and supports technology for areas of the firm related to logistics, business control and overall operations. ESS IT has experienced significant growth over the past two years, expanding to over 1,200 staff members and a budget of approximately $200M annually. Although ESS IT staff are primarily located in Stamford/New York, London, Zurich, and Singapore, ESS IT is responsible for delivering change programs with a truly global reach and which often span multiple UBS businesses including UBS Wealth Management & UBS Global Asset Management.
ESS IT is leading a number of important cross-functional programs and change management efforts that have significant impact on the IT landscape within UBS and the investment banking industry at large. These include, but are not limited to, strategic redesign of our Global Payments infrastructure, Client Management initiatives, and our enhancement of our Credit and Market Risk portfolios. ESS IT Production Services is responsible for the maintenance and support of all ESS IT applications globally, and is the primary interface to the various internal infrastructure and service organizations within UBS Investment Bank. The Production Services team strives to ensure consistent development and delivery of standard, efficient service across all ESS applications, while providing a framework for continuous process improvements and application flexibility. Key functions of ESS IT Production Services include Release Management, Application Support, Infrastructure Management, and the Production Programme Office.
Production Services is driving several ambitious projects aimed at establishing and standardizing effective process across ESS IT and improving the quality of application delivery to all the business units we support. We have embarked on a far-reaching, strategic program to move our global service delivery model to the ITIL (IT Infrastructure Library) framework; a forward thinking and proactive endeavour. We are also actively reviewing all of ESS IT's processes for delivery and release management in an effort to enhance and bring consistency to these practices across the stream, and improve the overall quality of software pre-production.
UBS Investment Bank is seeking an
Infrastructure Manager to work within the ESS IT Infrastructure team. The Infrastructure Manager will be responsible for managing the infrastructure for specific business groups and will liaise with IT production teams to manage ESS IT dependent shared services. The position will face-off to the relevant support teams to ensure their infrastructure requirements are met. The Infrastructure Manager will also be responsible for all projects originating from production infrastructure teams.
Other aspects of the role include process development to ensure best practices in the delivery of infrastructure projects, reporting on a regular basis to your line manager and presenting to the business when required. This role will require the ability to adopt flexible working hours e.g. early mornings, late evenings, overnight, or weekends, usually on a roster basis, as the needs of the business demands, and within the policies of the Bank.
The successful candidate will be a hands-on team player who is used to assuming responsibilities in a matrix environment, will have a strong focus on ownership of issues & commitment to resolving them, excellent verbal & written communication skills, a proven track record of building successful working relationships with clients and colleagues at all levels of an organization.
Key objectives (of the role) will be to:
Client:
* Understand and respond appropriately to the needs of the business users participating in pilots or testing phases for any infrastructure projects.
* Use project management expertise to resolve problems or escalate to the appropriate team.
* Manage client expectations.
* Build long-term relationships with internal clients, IT global teams and other IT areas to cooperatively deliver good client service.
* Work closely with the Applications Management team to successfully deliver to the business the desired results.
People:
* Makes suggestions on improving team processes based on the good of the team.
* Develop successful relationships with other IT team members, ITI & other IT teams to facilitate the resolution of issues and completion of requested actions.
* Effectively communicate issues to IT managers in all regions.
* Communicates effectively with the Infra Global Head to ensure all updates, issues, and pertinent project information are relayed.

Candidate may be required to travel to other UBS offices outside the home location for short periods to oversee BCM testing activities and to facilitate project progress and implementation.
Basic Qualifications
Requirements include:
* An understanding of a UNIX and Windows distributed architecture including:
* Database Environments including (Sybase / Oracle)
* Servers (Windows / UNIX operating systems)
* Application Servers (Websphere, 3rd party)
* Compute Servers
* Enterprise storage including NAS and SAN concepts and management.
* Coordinating hardware resource availability.
* Hardware sizing and design of HA and BCM strategies.
* Ongoing capacity and performance management of production environment.
* Raising, tracking, planning hardware requests and coordinating down-time with relevant support teams.
* Installation & configuration of environments.
* Escalation for infrastructure related issues.
* Principle communicator/coordinator to distributed systems groups including DB Services, Unix Support, NT Server Support, INet support, and IMS groups.
* Work with architecture teams to plan implementation of change-the-bank programs.
* Provide support and assistance to the ESS IT Product Line Architects on technical architecture run-the-bank projects.
* Understand ITIL standards and practices, in particular, Problem and Incident Management.
Essential Education:
* A bachelor's degree is essential.
* Minimum 5 years experience in a project role with Microsoft Office Suite in a large ideally global organization.
* Must be articulate and highly literate in the English language.
Experience:
10 to 15 years of experience in:
* Understanding of the business environment within which our bankers operate and how it impacts their role.
* Awareness of the effect the regulatory agencies (internal/ external) may have on policies, documentation and conduct.
* Knowledge of the industry relevant compliance agencies rules and procedures.
* Accountable and responsible for the necessary training to maintain competence for the role.
* Strong Project management skills.
* Written & verbal communication skills.
* Demonstrable relationship management skills in a large Global organization.
