Integrated Library System Administrator (133665-598)

Description Administers the NASA Galaxie integrated library system supporting 10 active libraries. Manages the steadily growing Galaxie database, currently consisting of over 600,000 titles and 1 million items. Provides general information technology support services for the NASA Langley Research Center?s Technical Library. Monitors system performance and corrects problems when they occur. Studies information processing capabilities to evaluate effectiveness and develop new capabilities to improve production or workflow. Provides training for NASA personnel. Develops custom scripts to load and extract data. Provides help desk support for all NASA libraries. Position is located at the NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, VA. Occasional travel to other NASA centers and attendance at technical conferences may be required.

 Required Skills

A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Library Science plus 2 or more years of direct experience or equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
The following experience is required:
- 2+ years experience in an academic or research library environment
- Knowledge of library functions, catalog record structures, standards, and procedures
- Experience as the administrator of an integrated library system
- Perl scripting or programming experience
- General database management skills
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines
- Demonstrated ability to work as a project leader or team member in development and integration of library information technology systems.

The following background/experience is desired:
- Experienced Sirsi Unicorn/STILAS administrator in a multi-library system. (C-ISAM version, Sun Solaris platform)
- Sirsi API training
- CGI, JavaScript, XML HTML
- Prior experience with Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Microsoft Access
- Experience with federated search software and an OpenURL resolver (preferably Ex Libris? MetaLib and SFX)
- Experience supporting staff at multiple, remote locations
