The UBS Investment Bank based in Stamford, Connecticut is seeking an experienced Java Developer for our Enterprise IT - Market Risk IT development teams to support the Market Risk Application Development projects. The Market Risk Control (MRC) area is responsible for controlling the risk exposure that UBS has to market movements. Within ESS (Enterprise Shared Services) IT - Market Risk IT (MRIT) is responsible for delivering & maintaining business critical applications for MRC globally. Specifically, MR IT provides systems that support the end-to-end collection of trade and position level data from front office systems through to the production of daily VAR (Value At Risk) reports for both traders and MRC up to board level. To maintain and improve the existing service provided to MRC, MR IT has a number of projects underway and a number of future projects/programmes planned.

Market Risk IT is seeking a Senior Developer capable of working on all technical aspects of Market Risk software development projects (specification, design, prototyping, implementation and support). The role includes participation in all areas of the project lifecycle, from requirements gathering and analysis through to testing and implementation.

The role will encompass project based assignments across all Market Risk Datasourcing applications and responsibilities will include:

* Participation in analysis and design activities

* Technical design and development activities for the FIRC (Merlin) application.

* Provision of deep functional and technical activities across the Datasourcing function

* Implementation of common development standards.

The main project is Market Risk Local Infrastructure aka 'Merlin', a Java/Swing application using 64-bit highly parallel C++ Corba Servers, services Market Risk Officers, worldwide. To be effective in this role, strong DBMS skills are also required.

A working knowledge of some financial markets products is also preferred. The candidate needs to demonstrate knowledge and experience of financial products in either Energy or Securities Lending.
This candidate must also have strong analytics skill and hence be able to analyze, design and implement advanced functional requirements; in direct contact with market risk officers.

The successful candidate is able to:

* Enjoys working directly with internal customers (Market Risk Control) for requirement gathering as well as system and testing specification.

* Work efficiently in a small team as well as occasionally on his own

* Be able to communicate within the global development team of 14 developers.

* Leverage know-how of more senior team members as well as coaching of junior colleagues is required.

* Develop systems in an effective manner within the constraints of given resources, using innovation and common sense
* Control risks and costs within own area

* Migrate outside streams into existing system

The position is to work within a small team or occasionally alone on software development sub-projects for the UBS Investment Bank Market Risk Control department, a global and demanding user base.

Other aspects involve contribution to the overall Market Risk Control system architecture and interaction with the support organization as well as service providers (i.e. UNIX system administration team).

Basic Qualifications

* A university Degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience and or a MBA, Masters Degree in finance or a related discipline.

* 3 to 5 years experience developing in Java is essential.

Preferred Qualifications

Technical skills are:

* 4 years of JAVA

* 4 years of RDBMS (Oracle or Sybase)

* WebSphere, JBoss or WebLogic J2EE experience

* JUnit Automated Unit Testing (Test Driven Development)

* Heavy-duty Data Feed processing

Preferred experience:

* Spring Framework

* Service Oriented Architectures

* Design Patterns

* Java GUI Frameworks (Struts / Spring / JSF)

* Web 2.0 GUIs (AJAX)

* Can read and understand C++

Minimum experience of at least 3 years in a development capacity, preferably with a Market Risk/Market Risk IT function of a large (multinational) investment bank. This will include a strong understanding of VaR calculation across Fixed Income, Rates/Currencies and other trading functions.

A working knowledge of some financial markets products is also required.
