The 1800Flowers.com Logistics Services group encompasses the systems, applications and processes responsible for order routing, fulfillment and delivery through the BloomNet network of florists and vendors.  Currently, 95% of all 1800Flowers orders are fulfilled through this channel, the remainder being handled directly by the 1800Flowers Specialty brands.  This team provides individuals a unique opportunity to provide immediate value to the 1800Flowers enterprise and its customers.



Job Overview

As Team Lead in the Logistics Services group, the candidate will work closely with the Director of Logistics Services to implement cost-effective information technology solutions that meet functional business needs and technical challenges, design solutions that fit the long term technical strategy and organizational standards, and meet and exceed the expectations of our customer base by delivering high quality, technically sound solutions. 

In a more autonomous role, the candidate will be responsible for leading the development team on a day-to-day basis, manage the development environment, manage production support issues, lead the detailed design and development phases, and take ownership of QA, integration and production deployment.

 

 

Job Description

?  Manage a small team of developers (onsite and offshore) in production support, application design and development projects.

?  Drive the application design and implementation process for all Logistics Services projects.

?  Work with the Director of Logistics Services to implement the short, medium, and long term strategic plans necessary to meet the evolving business needs.

?  Investigate and provide recommendations to enhance the existing product and functional offerings.

?  Manage the creation and deployment of reusable software components across projects.

?  Maintain and revise disaster recovery procedures and documentation.

?  Serve as the technical contact for 3rd party vendors (shipping companies and flower fulfillment companies)

?  Participate in 24/7 application support.

?  Actively develop solutions and/or provide production support on an as needed basis.

 

 

Technical Skills

?  6 years J2EE development

?  6 years relational database design

?  3 years software design

?  Implementation experience with industry standard application server (Websphere preferred)

?  Implementation experience with Apache web server.

?  Working knowledge of industry standard development practices and concepts (OO, J2EE, EJB, Servlets/JSP, MVC, Design Patterns, Relational DB Design, XML, XSLT, SOA, Web Services)

 

Soft Skills

?  The ability to determine which technical solution best fits a given scenario.

?  Solid, real world database design skills.

?  Focus and passion for high quality software design and development.

?  Desire to mentor and train developers in software design and development techniques.

?  Ability to manage the design and development of several concurrent projects.

?  Excellent communication skills.
