JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Job Title:  Software Development Engineer, Application Development

Reports To:  Sr. Director of Application Development

 

GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB

The Software Development Engineer in the Application Development team works with software engineers and project leads to design extensible server technologies for cross platform deployment on mobile devices, PC, consoles, set top boxes and other networked consumer embedded devices.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

None.

MAJOR DUTIES

The main responsibility of the Software Development Engineer will be the hands on design, development and evolution of scalable network applications utilized for cross platform (mobile, online, embedded etc.) consumer products.

The applications Software Development Engineer must coordinate with other application and platform engineers to clearly define project scope, develop creative user interface concepts and quickly improve and extend existing applications frameworks.

 

Candidates must adhere to defined product timelines, demonstrate solid organization/communication skills, and have the proven ability to manage multiple deliverables within fast paced software development cycles.

 

The preferred candidate will have a bachelor?s degree in Computer Science and 5-7 years practical software engineering experience.  A proven background in implementing scalable web services and strong aptitude towards OO design methods is strongly desired.

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

The following experience is required:

x Bachelor?s degree in Computer Science or similar professional field.

x 4-6 years of Java, C++ and/or C programming experience.

x 5-7 years of hands on production development using scripting languages such as JSP, PHP or ASP.

x Proficient with dynamic data management using XML-RPC/XSL, parsers and database interfaces (T-SQL/P-SQL)

x Strong understanding of common delivery protocols, including HTTP, SMTP or SMPP.

x Deep understanding of OO design pattern and methods.

x Experience working in a rapid development environment with a focus on quality of service.

The following experience is preferred:

x Experience in the design, development and/or evolution of a consumer facing user interfaces.

x Handheld or wireless device application development experience (BREW or J2ME).

x Experience working on memory or performance constrained platforms.

x Proven background in developing client/server based applications with an emphasis on server performance, run-time memory and service extensibility.

x Interest in consumer electronics and consumer facing products in any digital medium.
