LAN Administrator II Level 3

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Under supervision, responsible for maintaining and administering the local and wide area network, hardware and software on a daily basis. Responsible for fulfilling end-user requests.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

? Monitors, tests, troubleshoots, modifies and replaces network components to achieve optimum performance levels.

? Schedules and maintains- upgrades, installations, system backups and database archive operations to ensure data/media recoverability.

? Ensures workstation/server data integrity by evaluating, implementing, installing and managing appropriate software and hardware solutions.

? Conducts routine hardware and software audits of workstation and servers to ensure compliance with established standards, policies and configuring guidelines.

? Provides Level III support to the Help Desk, including adds, moves and changes of user information and maintenance of Ethernet topology.

? Assists in developing, promoting and maintaining comprehensive procedures, policies and standards for network system hardware and software configuration database/library of all supporting documentation.

 

OTHER FUNCTIONS

 

? Assists in evaluating, developing and maintaining telecommunications systems.

? Under direction, assist in managing LAN performance and maintaining LAN security.

? Supports media management through internal and offsite storage and retrieval methods.

? Ability to read, understand and manipulate network administration tools.

? Ability to work with end users to provide satisfaction to Level II computer and network issues.

? Quality and timeliness of problem resolution and system installations/upgrades/replacement.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

 

? Two to four years experience with PC hardware, Microsoft Office Suite, Windows NT, 2000, XP, & 2003 Operating Systems and networking (TCP/IP).

? Experience with LAN/WAN design and Ethernet twisted pair topology.

? Experience supporting multi-site environments.

 

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

 

Four year College degree in one of the following areas Computer Science or other computer related fields along with two to four years of experience.

 

REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, OR KNOWLEDGE

 

? In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Exchange E-Mail.

? Excellent oral and written communication skills.

? Competent to work on assignments fairly independently.

? In-depth knowledge of hardware and software applications.

? In-depth knowledge of computer operating systems, including Windows NT  4.0, Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows 2003.

? Experience with Active Directory, Group Policy,

? Basic knowledge of security, including : Anti-Virus, Anti-SPAM, Anti-Spyware, permissions.

? Analytical problem solving skills to evaluate technical solutions and resolve computer issues.

? Basic knowledge of 10/100/1000Mb Ethernet, wireless telecommunications technologies, TCP/IP subnetting and routing, and Internet connectivity options including VPN (PPTP, L2TP, IPSEC, SSL, etc).
